SAP ABAP RAP BTP Developer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced SAP ABAP RAP BTP Developer with strong expertise in SAP S/4HANA, ABAP on HANA, CDS, RAP, and SAP BTP. The candidate will be responsible for designing and developing scalable enterprise applications, RESTful/OData services, transactional business objects, and cloud-ready extensions following SAP Clean Core principles.

Key Responsibilities

1. RESTful Service Development

- Design, develop, and implement enterprise-grade OData V2/V4 services using the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).
- Develop RESTful APIs to enable seamless communication between SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP, Fiori/UI5, and external applications.
- Implement service definitions, service bindings, projections, and API exposure following SAP best practices.
- Troubleshoot and optimize OData services for performance and scalability.

2. RAP Business Object Development

- Design and develop transactional Business Objects (BOs) using the RAP framework.
- Create and maintain Behavior Definitions (BDEF) and Behavior Implementations for managed and unmanaged scenarios.
- Implement CRUD operations, validations, determinations, actions, feature control, and authorization handling.
- Develop draft-enabled applications and transactional processing where required.
- Implement locking, ETags, late numbering, and other RAP capabilities.

3. CDS & Advanced Data Modeling

- Design complex data models using ABAP Core Data Services (CDS Views).
- Develop interface, consumption, projection, and analytical CDS views as required.
- Implement CDS annotations for:
- Fiori Elements UI
- Search
- Analytics
- Authorization
- Value helps and semantic definitions

- Optimize CDS views and database access for high-volume S/4HANA environments.

4. ABAP on HANA Development

- Develop modern ABAP applications using ABAP for HANA principles.




- Hands-on experience with AMDP, CDS, SQL optimization, and code pushdown.
- Analyze and improve application performance using appropriate HANA-native techniques.
- Perform ABAP development following clean, reusable, and maintainable coding standards.

5. SAP BTP & Clean Core Extensibility

- Develop cloud-ready extensions using SAP BTP ABAP Environment (Steampunk).
- Apply SAP Clean Core principles to minimize modifications to the S/4HANA digital core.
- Implement developer extensibility and side-by-side extensibility solutions on SAP BTP.
- Ensure solutions are upgrade-stable and aligned with SAP's cloud extensibility strategy.

6. Integration & Event Handling

- Develop and consume APIs for integration between SAP and non-SAP applications.
- Work with SAP BTP Integration Suite for integration scenarios.
- Implement asynchronous communication using Business Events/Event Handling within RAP and S/4HANA.
- Integrate SAP applications with external systems using REST/OData APIs.
- Troubleshoot integration failures, payload issues, authentication problems, and interface errors.

7. Fiori & Application Enablement

- Develop backend services to support SAP Fiori and Fiori Elements applications.
- Implement annotations and metadata required for Fiori Elements-based applications.
- Collaborate with UI5/Fiori developers to provide optimized backend services and business logic.
- Ensure APIs and services meet application performance and usability requirements.

8. Technical Leadership





- Participate in technical design, architecture discussions, and solution development.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to SAP development standards.
- Mentor junior and mid-level ABAP developers on RAP, CDS, BTP, and Clean Core development.
- Collaborate with functional consultants, architects, integration teams, and business stakeholders.

Mandatory Skills

- 7+ years of SAP ABAP development experience
- Strong hands-on experience in ABAP on HANA
- Strong expertise in:
- ABAP RAP
- CDS Views
- AMDP
- OData V2/V4

- Hands-on experience with RAP Business Objects
- Strong knowledge of Behavior Definitions (BDEF) and Behavior Implementations
- Experience with managed and unmanaged RAP scenarios
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA development
- Knowledge of SAP BTP ABAP Environment / Steampunk
- Understanding of SAP Clean Core and cloud extensibility
- Solid experience in REST/API-based integration
- Good understanding of Fiori/Fiori Elements backend development

Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills

- SAP BTP Integration Suite
- SAP Event Mesh / Business Events
- SAP S/4HANA Cloud extensibility
- Side-by-side and developer extensibility
- SAP Fiori Elements
- SAP UI5 knowledge
- API Management
- OAuth and other API authentication mechanisms
- Git / CI-CD and DevOps practices
- Experience with SAP Cloud Application Programming concepts is an advantage
