Position : Student Counsellor

Job Summary

n

The School Counsellor will be responsible for strengthening the emotional, social,

n

behavioural, and overall well-being of students by providing skilled counselling

n

support, early intervention, guidance, and preventive wellbeing programmes. The

n

role involves working collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and school

n

leadership to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that enables every

n

student to thrive.

n

Key Responsibilities

n

 Student Well-being & Counselling: Provide individual and group

n

counselling, guidance, and age-appropriate interventions to support students

n

with emotional, behavioural, social, academic, and personal concerns.

n

 Early Identification & Intervention: Proactively identify students requiring

n

additional support through observations, referrals, interactions, and

n

appropriate assessment, and develop suitable intervention and follow-up

n

plans.

n

 Pastoral & Behavioural Support: Partner with teachers and school

n

leadership in addressing behavioural, interpersonal, adjustment, attendance,

n

and classroom-related concerns, promoting positive behaviour and healthy

n

student relationships.

n

 Parent & Family Engagement: Work closely with parents to understand

n

student concerns, provide appropriate guidance, facilitate constructive

n

conversations, and build a collaborative support system around the child.

n

 Student Development & Well-being Programmes:



Design and facilitate

n

age-appropriate programmes, workshops, and interventions focused on

n

emotional intelligence, resilience, self-awareness, stress management,

n

relationships, life skills, digital well-being, bullying prevention, and responsible

n

decision-making.

n

 Academic & Career Guidance: Support students in developing effective

n

study habits, managing academic pressures, setting goals, making informed

n

academic choices, and exploring career and higher-education pathways.

n

 Safeguarding & Risk Management: Act as a key support resource for

n

student safeguarding and protection, responding appropriately to concerns

n

relating to bullying, abuse, neglect, self-harm, emotional distress, or other

n

risks in accordance with established school protocols.

n

 Referral & Professional Collaboration: Recognise cases requiring

n

specialised intervention and coordinate, as appropriate, with parents and

n

qualified external professionals while ensuring continuity of support within the

n

school.

n

 Confidentiality, Documentation & Case Management: Maintain appropriate

n

confidentiality, accurate counselling records, case notes,



intervention plans,

n

referrals, and follow-up documentation in accordance with professional and

n

institutional standards.

n

 School-wide Well-being Culture: Contribute to the development of a

n

positive, inclusive, and psychologically safe school culture by partnering with

n

n

teachers and leadership and providing guidance on student well-being,

n

classroom dynamics, and supportive practices.

n

 Stakeholder Collaboration: Work as an integral member of the school's

n

pastoral/student-support team, contributing professional insights to student

n

support discussions, intervention planning, and broader school initiatives.

n

n

Educational Qualifications:

n

n
- Master’s Degree in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Educational Psychology or a related field.
n
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology / Counselling / Social Work / Education or a relevant discipline.
n
- Professional certification or training in School Counselling, Child Psychology, Adolescent Counselling, or Student Well-being will be an added advantage.
n
- Knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, POSH, and student welfare practices is preferred.
n

Experience:

n

n
- Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience as a School Counsellor, Student Counsellor, Child Psychologist, or in a similar student-support role , preferably in a school environment.
n
- Experience working with children and adolescents across different age groups .
n
