Job Summary The Head of Department (HOD) will be responsible for maintaining and improving the academic standards, teaching quality, classroom management and overall performance of teachers within the assigned department.

The HOD will serve as an academic leader, mentor and trainer, ensuring that teachers are effectively supported, monitored and developed. The role will involve a combination of teaching, teacher training, classroom observation, academic monitoring, notebook correction, teacher performance tracking and operational support across branches.

The HOD is expected to take complete ownership of the assigned department and ensure that all teachers consistently meet the organisation's academic and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Teacher Induction & Onboarding

Ensure that all newly appointed teachers are properly inducted and settled into their roles. Support new teachers in understanding academic expectations, lesson planning, classroom procedures and school policies.

Monitor new teachers regularly to ensure they are conducting classes effectively.

Identify performance gaps and provide timely guidance and support.

1. Teacher Training & Development

Conduct daily training sessions for teachers. Train teachers in effective classroom management, teaching methodologies and student engagement techniques.

Identify individual teacher training needs and provide appropriate coaching.

Conduct regular feedback and mentoring sessions to improve teacher performance.

Ensure that teachers effectively implement the training provided in their classrooms.

1. Teaching Responsibilities

Take a minimum of 2 teaching periods every day. Remain actively involved in classroom teaching and academic activities.

Maintain high teaching standards and serve as a role model for teachers.

Provide academic support to teachers whenever required.

1. Notebook Correction & Academic Monitoring

Personally review/correct a minimum of 100 notebooks every day. Monitor the notebook correction status of teachers within the respective department.

Identify teachers who are falling behind in notebook corrections.

Maintain an updated Notebook Correction Tracking Report.

Follow up with teachers who have pending corrections and ensure that all backlogs are cleared within the stipulated timeline.





Monitor the quality and consistency of notebook corrections.

1. Classroom & Teacher Performance Monitoring

Regularly observe teachers during classroom teaching. Evaluate classroom management, teaching methodology, student engagement and lesson delivery.

Provide constructive feedback and actionable suggestions for improvement.

Identify recurring performance concerns and report them to the Chief Content Head.

Maintain appropriate records of teacher observations and performance.

1. Managing Teacher Absenteeism

Provide immediate classroom support in case a teacher is unexpectedly absent. Take over classes when required to ensure that academic activities continue without disruption.

Coordinate with the relevant team to ensure appropriate class coverage.

1. Pre-Primary HOD – Additional Responsibilities

In addition to the above responsibilities, the Pre-Primary HOD will: Conduct a minimum of 2 hours of training every day.

Train and mentor both Pre-Primary teachers and maids/support staff.

Ensure that teachers and support staff follow appropriate standards relating to:

Child handling and care

Classroom management

Hygiene and cleanliness

Safety and supervision

Student discipline

Age-appropriate classroom practices

Regularly monitor the implementation of these standards across the Pre-Primary department.

1. Branch Coordination

Travel between branches as required by the organisation. Maintain a designated base branch.

Work from only one branch per day and will not be required to travel between multiple branches on the same day.

Ensure consistency in academic standards and teacher performance across assigned branches.

1. Reporting & Documentation

The HOD will report directly to the Chief Content Head and will be responsible for submitting regular and accurate reports, including:

Teacher training reports

Recent teacher monitoring reports

Notebook correction reports

Teacher observation and performance reports

Pending correction/backlog reports

Teacher absenteeism and class coverage reports

Departmental issues and action-taken reports

Any other reports required by the Chief Content Head or management





Candidate Qualifications & Eligibility

Essential Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject/department.

For Mathematics and English, secondary-level teaching experience is required/preferred.

Must have scored above 85% in both Teachers' Tests.

Should have worked for a minimum of 3 years in their most recent school/organisation.

Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.

Strong classroom management and teacher mentoring abilities.

Ability to train, motivate and manage teachers effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with a minimum of 1 year of prior HOD/academic leadership experience will be preferred.

Experience managing or mentoring a team of teachers will be an advantage.

Experience working across multiple branches or campuses will be an advantage.

Personal vehicle is preferred due to the requirement for branch travel.

Ensure teachers are consistently prepared and effective in their classrooms.

Maintain high academic and teaching standards within the department.

Ensure timely completion and monitoring of notebook corrections.

Conduct effective and meaningful teacher training every day.

Support, mentor and develop new teachers.

Ensure uninterrupted academic functioning during teacher absences.

Identify performance gaps promptly and take corrective action.

Maintain accurate departmental records and reports.

Take complete ownership of the performance and development of the assigned department.

Maintain regular communication and accountability with the Chief Content Head.
