About Aereo

Aereo (earlier known as Aarav Unmanned Systems) is a deep-tech company building the future of how the physical world is mapped, understood and managed.

We build end-to-end drone and geospatial intelligence solutions for enterprises and governments across mining & metals, infrastructure, energy, utilities, urban planning and other large-scale industries.

Our technology brings together aerial robotics, computer vision, GIS, AI and cloud software to solve complex, real-world problems at scale.

About Aereo Cloud

Aereo Cloud is our enterprise SaaS platform and the technology backbone of our geospatial intelligence ecosystem.

The platform enables organizations to securely store, manage, visualize and analyze massive volumes of drone and geospatial data, turning complex spatial data into actionable insights and workflows.

With workloads operating at PB-scale, Aereo Cloud brings together large-scale data processing, geospatial visualization, analytics and enterprise workflows.

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer – IV to help lead the next phase of engineering at Aereo Cloud.

The Role

This is a senior engineering leadership role combining technical ownership with people leadership.

You will lead a team of engineers across key areas of Aereo Cloud while remaining deeply involved in the technical problems the team is solving.

We are looking for someone who has grown from a strong software engineering background into technical and people leadership - someone who can design systems, make architectural decisions, solve complex engineering problems and get hands-on when required, while building and developing a high-performing engineering team.

You won't be expected to code all day, but you also won't be expected to step away from engineering. You should be comfortable reviewing designs and code, debugging production issues, prototyping solutions and contributing to critical implementations when needed.

We are not looking for someone who has moved away from engineering into management. We are looking for an engineer who has grown into leadership.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership & Engineering

- Own the technical direction and architecture of your engineering area.

- Lead system design and make pragmatic decisions across scalability, performance, reliability, security and cost.

- Break down complex,

ambiguous problems into clear technical approaches and execution plans.

- Review designs, RFCs and critical code, and raise the engineering bar across the team.

- Stay close to the codebase and dive into complex technical or production problems when required.

- Contribute to implementation, prototyping or debugging for critical and high-leverage problems.

- Drive improvements across engineering standards, testing, CI/CD, observability and production reliability.

- Own critical engineering initiatives from problem definition through production.

People Leadership

- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team.

- Conduct regular 1:1s, provide actionable feedback and support engineers in their career growth.

- Develop engineers into stronger technical owners and future technical leaders.

- Set clear expectations and maintain a culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.

- Identify and address performance and capability gaps within the team.

- Participate actively in hiring, interviewing and onboarding engineering talent.

Product & Business Impact

- Partner with Product, Design and Business teams to translate customer problems into effective technical solutions.

- Influence product and engineering roadmaps through strong technical judgment.

- Balance product velocity with scalability, reliability and long-term technical health.

- Help engineers connect their technical work to customer and business outcomes.

What We're Looking For

Must Have

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- 6+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production-grade systems.

- Meaningful experience in technical leadership and/or people management.

- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building scalable production systems.

- Strong understanding of system design, distributed systems, microservices, APIs, databases and cloud-native architectures.

- Strong proficiency in one or more languages such as Python, Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, Java, Go or similar.

- Experience designing systems with a focus on scalability, performance, reliability and security.

- Ability to take ambiguous technical problems from definition through execution and production.

- Experience mentoring engineers and developing greater technical ownership within a team.

- Strong communication, ownership and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

- Experience leading or managing a team of 5+ engineers.

- Experience in a product or SaaS company.

- Experience owning or significantly influencing a product or engineering roadmap.

- Experience with large-scale, data-intensive or distributed systems.

- Experience with AWS, GCP or Azure and modern cloud-native technologies.

- Familiarity with Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability and infrastructure-as-code.

- Experience with high-volume data processing, analytics or data platforms.

- Experience with geospatial, GIS, mapping, imagery, computer vision or other spatial/data-heavy applications.

- Experience hiring and developing engineers into technical leadership roles.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means leaving the engineering organisation stronger than you found it.

Within your first 6–12 months, you should:

- Build a high-performing, accountable engineering team.

- Develop engineers into stronger technical owners and future leaders.

- Improve technical decision-making, engineering quality and execution.

- Drive meaningful improvements in architecture, reliability and engineering velocity.

- Own and deliver critical technical initiatives.

- Become someone engineers actively seek out when they face difficult technical problems.

Why Aereo

You will work on complex engineering problems at the intersection of cloud software, geospatial intelligence, aerial robotics and large-scale data.

Aereo Cloud processes massive volumes of drone and spatial data and enables enterprises across mining, infrastructure, energy and other industries to understand and manage physical assets.

You'll have the opportunity to influence both the technology we're building and the engineers who build it. If you've grown from a strong software engineer into someone who enjoys solving hard technical problems, building scalable systems, mentoring engineers and taking ownership of teams and outcomes, this is an prospect to play a meaningful role in building the next generation of Aereo Cloud.
