Python Tech Lead Healthcare RCM Automation

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Python Tech Lead to join a high-ownership engineering team building a Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Automation Platform for a healthcare provider.

This is a greenfield product development opportunity where you will contribute across backend services, EDI processing, workflow orchestration, REST APIs, and operational UI components. The role requires end-to-end ownership of modules in a lean engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Core Platform Development

- Design, build, and maintain core platform services, including configuration management, logging, health checks, secrets management, and telemetry.
- Develop processing pipelines with staged processing, retries, dead-letter queues, and robust error handling.
- Own modules from design through implementation, testing, documentation, and production handover.

EDI Processing

- Build EDI ingestion and processing capabilities for X12 835 and 837 transactions.
- Parse EDI files into structured transaction models.
- Validate ISA/GS/ST envelopes and implement enrichment rules.
- Develop resilient parsing logic for companion-guide variations.
- Implement normalization, payer-ID resolution, and CARC/RARC enrichment.

Data Mapping & Integration

- Develop configuration-driven mapping logic to convert parsed transactions into canonical data models.
- Build reliable file-processing workflows with idempotency, retries, and dead-letter handling.
- Implement SFTP automation, PGP encryption, and third-party integrations.

Orchestration & Workflow

- Design transaction lifecycle state machines and content-based routing.
- Implement exception queues, retry mechanisms, escalation workflows, and scheduled jobs.
- Develop event-driven and time-based orchestration components.

API Development

- Design and develop REST APIs using FastAPI or similar frameworks.
- Implement OAuth2/JWT authentication and role-based authorization.




- Support API versioning, pagination, and schema validation.

Full-Stack Contribution

- Contribute to operational UI development, including dashboards, monitoring views, configuration management, exception handling, transaction viewers, and audit/activity logs.

Engineering Excellence

- Write and maintain automated tests.
- Ensure PHI-safe logging practices.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and backlog refinement.
- Perform cross-module collaboration and interface reviews.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools responsibly while validating domain-critical logic.

Technical Skills

Core Python Engineering

- 57 years of production-grade Python development.
- Robust understanding of Python typing, packaging, Async I/O, and Pytest.
- Experience developing production REST APIs using FastAPI or similar frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, and Pydantic or equivalent schema validation.

Pipeline & Integration Engineering
- Experience with message queues, retry and idempotency patterns, dead-letter queues, and high-volume batch/file processing.
- Hands-on experience with SFTP automation and PGP encryption.
- Strong SQL schema design and query optimization skills.

Orchestration & Scheduling
- Experience with workflow and state-machine design.
- Knowledge of Celery, APScheduler, Cron-based scheduling, and event-driven processing.

Cross-Cutting Engineering Skills
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Experience with structured logging, metrics, monitoring, and alerting.
- Ability to work across multiple modules in a lean engineering team.

AI-Assisted Development
- Daily experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or similar tools.
- Ability to use AI for boilerplate generation, test generation, code review,



and development productivity.
- Strong judgment to validate AI-generated code and domain-specific logic against requirements.

Domain Expertise

Healthcare EDI

- Knowledge of X12 835 – Remittance Advice and X12 837 – Healthcare Claims.
- Understanding of ISA/GS/ST envelopes, loops, segments, TA1, and 999 acknowledgments.
- Experience with tools such as pyx12 or LinuxForHealth EDI tooling is preferred.

Revenue Cycle Management
- Understanding of the claims lifecycle.
- Remittance posting.
- Denial management.
- Clearinghouse integrations.

Front-End Experience

- Experience with modern SPA frameworks.
- Experience building data-heavy dashboards, data grids, and operational monitoring interfaces.

Compliance & Delivery
- Awareness of HIPAA and PHI handling requirements.
- Experience working in Agile environments with dedicated BA and QA teams.
- Solid focus on secure and compliant healthcare application development.

Preferred / Nice to Have

- Healthcare RCM product development experience.
- Experience building PHI-safe services from the ground up.
- Familiarity with OpenShift, Docker, and cloud-native deployments.
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks.
- Experience with healthcare EDI tooling.
