A GC-MS Quality Analyst in a cosmetics manufacturing company works in the QC (Quality Control) laboratory and uses GC/GC-MS to verify that cosmetic raw materials and finished products meet quality, safety, and specification requirements.

Main job responsibilities

- Analyze raw materials such as fragrances, essential oils, solvents, emollients, preservatives, and other volatile ingredients using GC/GC-MS.
- Test finished cosmetic products such as perfumes, deodorants, creams, lotions, shampoos, hair products, etc., where GC-MS is applicable.
- Perform identification and quantification of fragrance components and volatile compounds.
- Check impurities and unwanted volatile substances.
- Perform residual solvent analysis when applicable.
- Prepare samples, standards, solvents, and reagents accurately.
- Operate and maintain GC-MS and GC instruments.
- Perform system suitability, calibration checks, and instrument performance checks.
- Review chromatograms, mass spectra, integration, calculations, and analytical results.
- Compare results against approved specifications and test methods.




- Investigate OOS/OOT results and assist with root-cause investigations.
- Follow GMP, GLP, SOPs, safety procedures, and data-integrity requirements.
- Maintain laboratory records, instrument logbooks, worksheets, and analytical reports.
- Assist with method development, method validation/verification, and method transfer.
- Coordinate with QA, Production, R&D;, and other QC sections.
- Support audits and regulatory/customer requirements.
