Publishing Lead — SheThePeople Delhi · Full time (or a 6-month consulting engagement that converts) · Reports to Shaili Chopra
SheThePeople is starting a book imprint. We publish women — founders, doctors, lawyers, academics, leaders — for whom a book is skilled infrastructure, not a hobby. Our authors pay, at published prices, and we publish far fewer books than we are offered.
You are the first hire. You will build this division and run it as a business.
What you'll do
- Find and sign the authors. This is most of the job - building a pipeline of women whose books should exist, and converting them.
- Sell commissioned books to companies and foundations
- Set the machine up: ISBN registration, printers, print-on-demand, distribution, the freelance bench of editors and designers, the author contract.
- Own the numbers — pricing, cash terms, production budgets, print runs.
- Work with SheThePeople's existing social, video, podcast and events teams rather than building your own.
Who we're looking for
- 3-4 years, with real time inside publishing, media, or a business where you carried a number.
- You have closed something substantial — a rights deal, a sponsorship, a corporate mandate.
- You know how a book actually gets made.
- You read,
and you have defensible opinions about what is worth publishing.
- Not for you if you want to spend your days editing manuscripts, need a department around you, or think selling is beneath the work.
- Prior experience at a trade publishing house, literary agency or publishing services business.
- Experience selling to corporate, CSR or foundation budgets.
- Familiarity with print-on-demand and Amazon/Flipkart distribution.
- Working knowledge of Hindi or another Indian language.
What we offer
Full ownership of a new business line within an established, well-known brand.
Direct reporting to the Founder, with meaningful decision-making authority and budget responsibility.
An established national audience, media platform and event property to build on from day one.
How to apply
Please email your CV to
[email protected] with "Publishing Lead" in the subject line.
In place of a cover letter, include a short note (no more than two paras) covering:
1. A book by a woman author published in the last five years that you would like to have published, and why.
2. An organisation you would approach for a commissioned book project, and how you would position it.
3. One question or challenge you have about our plans for the imprint.
