Role Overview

We are looking for a strong hands-on Progress OpenEdge / ABL Developer to develop, enhance, and support functionality within Carrier Logistics’ enterprise Transportation Management System (TMS).

The role is centered on hands-on software development using Progress OpenEdge ABL / Progress 4GL, along with SQL, debugging, application enhancements, and production support. Experience with EDI, transportation/logistics systems, REST APIs, XML, or JSON is valuable but is not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Hands-on Progress OpenEdge Development

· Core Development: Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise business applications using Progress OpenEdge ABL / Progress 4GL.





· Application Enhancements: Analyze business requirements and translate them into reliable technical solutions within CLI’s mature TMS platform.

· Database & Troubleshooting: Work with relational databases and SQL; troubleshoot complex application, database, and data-processing issues.

· Quality & Production Support: Participate in testing, debugging, root-cause analysis, bug fixes, and production support while writing clean, maintainable, production-quality code.

2. Enterprise Workflows & Integrations

· Business Workflows: Work closely with senior developers and business analysts to implement enhancements and customer-specific transportation workflows.

· Integration Support: Support enterprise application integrations and EDI-related workflows where required; EDI experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

· Modern Integrations: Contribute to or support integrations using REST APIs, XML, or JSON where applicable.

· Engineering Ownership: Work effectively within a large existing codebase, independently troubleshoot issues, and take ownership of stable software delivery.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Must-Have (Hands-on)

· Strong hands-on experience with Progress OpenEdge / ABL / Progress 4GL.

· Strong hands-on software development experience in enterprise or business applications.

· Experience with relational databases and SQL, along with strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.

· Experience developing enhancements and supporting production applications within a mature enterprise codebase.

Good to Have

· Experience with EDI transaction processing, mapping, transformation, or ANSI X12 transactions.

· Transportation, logistics, supply chain, warehouse, shipping, distribution, or operational software experience.

· Experience with REST APIs, XML, JSON, AppServer, PASOE, WebSpeed, PDSOE, or related OpenEdge integration technologies.

Education

· B.E. / B.Tech / M.C.A. / M.Tech in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
