Role Description The Language Development intern will support the improvement of academic manuscripts and publication materials through language refinement and clarity enhancement. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing and editing research documents for grammar, coherence, and style, assisting in formatting according to journal guidelines, and collaborating with senior editors on quality checks. This is an on-site internship role based in Kolkata,
requiring regular in-office collaboration and adherence to project timelines.
Qualifications
- Strong command of written English, including grammar, syntax, and academic style, with the ability to revise and refine complex texts.
- Ability to analyze and improve clarity, coherence, and structure in research manuscripts, abstracts, and cover letters.
- Attention to detail and consistency in language usage, with a focus on maintaining author voice while improving readability.
- Comfort working with multidisciplinary content (e.g., engineering, medical sciences, computer science, life sciences, management, social sciences) and willingness to learn domain-specific terminology.
- Robust organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple documents and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with editors and supporting researchers.
- Pursuing or having completed a degree in English, Linguistics, Communications, Translation, or a related field; prior editing or language support experience is a plus.
- Basic proficiency with word processing tools and document collaboration platforms; familiarity with plagiarism and ethical publishing principles is beneficial.
