Deputy General Manager (DGM) Vehicles
Role Summary The DGM – Vehicles will be responsible for the overall management of the organization's vehicle and equipment fleet, ensuring safe, reliable, compliant, cost-effective and efficient fleet operations across all projects/sites.
The role will provide strategic and operational leadership for fleet maintenance, vehicle deployment, driver management, statutory compliance, fuel management, route optimization, vendor management, fleet cost control and digital fleet monitoring.
Qualification & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 20–25 years of relevant experience in fleet, transport, automobile, heavy equipment or vehicle maintenance management.
- Preferably from Construction, Infrastructure, EPC, Mining, Logistics, Manufacturing or other asset-intensive industries.
- Experience managing large, multi-location fleets and leading cross-functional teams is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead overall fleet operations, deployment, utilization and availability of vehicles and equipment.
- Establish and monitor preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance systems to maximize fleet reliability and minimize downtime.
- Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, protected, properly maintained and compliant with statutory requirements.
- Manage and develop drivers, mechanics, supervisors and fleet/maintenance teams, including recruitment, training,
performance management and safety awareness.
- Monitor driver compliance, licenses, medical fitness, working hours, driving behavior and safety performance.
- Implement GPS, telematics and digital fleet-management systems for real-time monitoring of vehicle location, utilization, fuel consumption, driver behavior and maintenance.
- Optimize routes, vehicle deployment and fleet utilization to reduce mileage, idle time and operational inefficiencies.
- Manage fuel, tyres, spare parts and maintenance costs, with strong focus on cost reduction and operational efficiency.
- Prepare and control CAPEX/OPEX budgets and monitor Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), cost/km and cost/hour.
- Manage OEMs, authorized dealers, workshops, fuel suppliers, tyre suppliers and other external vendors, ensuring quality, cost and service-level compliance.
- Establish systems for accident, breakdown and emergency response, including Root Cause Analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain comprehensive fleet MIS and management dashboards covering availability, utilization, downtime, fuel efficiency, maintenance cost, breakdowns, accidents and statutory compliance.
- Develop fleet replacement and asset lifecycle strategies based on age, condition, utilization, maintenance cost and business requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fleet productivity, safety, reliability and cost efficiency.
