Location: Bangalore | Type: Full-time

About uDot uDot has developed a refreshable tactile display, a ~2,400-pin device that renders Braille, diagrams, graphs, and even tactile animations paired with a curriculum-aligned learning platform for blind and visually impaired students. Over 95% of blind children in India drop Math and Science by Grade 7 because there's no way for them to engage with these subjects independently. We're changing that.

We're a young, fast-moving hardware and edtech startup already deployed in live classrooms, and scaling across India with an international pipeline opening up in the US and Europe.

Role Overview

We're looking for a hands-on engineer who thrives at the intersection of hardware and software—building Android applications that talk to custom hardware, microcontrollers, sensors, and cloud services. You'll take ownership of features spanning the full stack, from mobile UI to embedded firmware to backend APIs, in a small, fast-paced team.

Key Responsibilities

Android Development (Primary Focus)

- Design, build, and maintain Android apps in Kotlin/Java, including connectivity via BLE, Wi-Fi, USB, or serial communication
- Troubleshoot performance, compatibility, and connectivity issues; participate in architecture, code review, and releases

Embedded Systems & Microcontroller Integration

- Develop and debug firmware (C/C++) on platforms like ESP32, Arduino, STM32, or Raspberry Pi
- Integrate sensors, actuators, motors, and displays; build device-to-app communication; debug end-to-end with hardware teams

Full Stack & Backend

- Build and maintain REST APIs and backend services (PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB)
- Support authentication, device registration, data sync,

and third-party integrations
- Contribute to web-based admin/monitoring tools

Integration & Product Development

- Own end-to-end features across mobile, backend, and hardware
- Diagnose issues across the full stack; contribute to prototyping, testing, and product validation

Required Skills & Qualifications
- 2–3 years of professional software development experience; startup/IoT/embedded/connected-device experience highly desirable
- Strongly preferred: Android development (Kotlin/Java) with BLE/Wi-Fi/USB integration; hands-on experience with ESP32, Arduino, STM32, or similar; working knowledge of C/C++ for embedded development; hardware-software debugging experience
- Backend: REST API development (Python, Node.js, Java, or .NET); SQL and database experience (PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB); cloud platform familiarity (AWS/Azure/GCP) a plus; basic web dev (React/Angular/HTML/CSS/JS) a plus
- Git/version control, strong debugging skills, ability to read schematics and communication protocols; Agile familiarity a plus

Nice to Have
- BLE GATT profiles, MQTT/WebSockets, I2C/SPI/UART/GPIO
- Experience taking a prototype through to production deployment
- Accessibility-focused application development experience

Ideal Candidate

Someone with 2–3 years of hands-on experience who enjoys working across software and physical devices, debugs confidently across multiple system layers, takes ownership independently, and thrives in a rapid-paced startup environment.

Why Join uDot?

Build real-world products spanning Android, embedded systems, IoT, backend, and cloud—with direct ownership of meaningful features and room to grow into a senior technical or product engineering role as we scale.
