BRIGHT TIDE MEDIA HOUSEEditorial AssistantWork Type: Full-time

Location: Fully Remote

Salary: ₹10,000–₹15,000 per month, depending on experience

Reporting to: Founder / Editorial Lead

About Bright Tide Media HouseBright Tide Media House is an independent publishing house focused on stories that deserve a bigger audience, particularly queer romance, BL, fantasy, historical fiction, and culturally rooted storytelling.

We’re building a small, hands-on publishing house where authors work closely with the editorial and creative team. We care about solid stories, distinctive voices, thoughtful editing, and books that leave an impact.

We’re looking for an Editorial Assistant to join us as we grow our publishing list.

About the RoleAs an Editorial Assistant, you’ll work closely with the founder and editorial team across the publishing process, from reading and evaluating manuscripts to supporting authors through revisions and helping keep the editorial pipeline organised.

This is a hands-on role. You won’t just be doing administrative work or proofreading. You’ll be reading manuscripts, thinking critically about stories, spotting problems, discussing edits, and helping shape books before publication.

The ideal person is someone who genuinely loves reading and has a strong instinct for what makes a story work.

What You'll DoManuscript Reading & Evaluation

- Read submitted manuscripts and assess them for story quality, originality, structure, characterisation, pacing, writing style, and overall potential.
- Prepare concise editorial notes and manuscript evaluations.
- Identify strengths as well as areas that need development.
- Flag promising manuscripts and bring them to the editorial team’s attention.
- Keep up with submissions and maintain organised records of manuscripts under review.

Editorial Support

- Assist with developmental editing, line editing, and proofreading depending on the stage of the manuscript.
- Review chapters and revisions submitted by authors.
- Identify inconsistencies in plot, characterisation, pacing,

worldbuilding, continuity, and tone.
- Help prepare constructive editorial feedback for authors.
- Proofread manuscripts and other publishing materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, and clarity.

Author Support

- Communicate with authors regarding revisions, feedback, deadlines, and editorial queries.
- Help ensure feedback is clear, constructive, and respectful of the author's voice.
- Track revisions and follow up on outstanding editorial work when required.
- Help create a smooth experience for authors throughout the publishing process.

Research & Publishing Support

- Conduct research relevant to manuscripts, particularly historical, cultural, mythological, or worldbuilding details where required.
- Assist with fact-checking and continuity checks.
- Support the editorial team with book-related research and references.
- Help maintain editorial documents, manuscript versions, feedback, and publishing timelines.

What We're Looking For
- A strong reader with an instinct for story and character.
- Excellent command of written English.
- A good understanding of grammar, sentence structure, pacing, dialogue, and narrative structure.
- Someone who can distinguish between “I personally don't like this” and “this isn't working for the story.”
- Strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable giving honest but constructive feedback.
- Able to understand and preserve an author's individual voice rather than editing everything into the same style.
- Organised and reliable with deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
- Genuine interest in fiction and contemporary publishing.

Bonus If You Have
- Previous experience in editing, publishing,

proofreading, content editing, or manuscript evaluation.
- Experience working with fiction manuscripts.
- A degree or coursework in English, literature, publishing, creative writing, or a related field.
- Experience reading or editing romance, fantasy, BL, queer fiction, historical fiction, or web fiction.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Wattpad, AO3, Kindle, Webtoon, or other online fiction communities.
- Experience with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or similar editorial tools.

What We Care About More Than Your CVYou don't need years of publishing experience to apply.

We're much more interested in how you read.

Can you tell us why a character isn't working? Can you identify when pacing starts dragging? Can you spot an inconsistency three chapters after it was introduced? Can you suggest a fix without completely rewriting the author's voice?

If you can do that, we want to hear from you.

Working StyleThis is a fully remote role. You’ll work independently while staying in regular communication with the Bright Tide team.

Because we're a small publishing house, you'll have the opportunity to work directly on manuscripts rather than being buried under layers of management. Your feedback and editorial judgement will actually influence the books we publish.

We value

- Good communication
- Ownership of your work
- Meeting deadlines
- Attention to detail
- Honest editorial judgement
- Respect for authors and their creative voices

Compensation₹10,000–₹15,000 per month, depending on experience, editorial ability, and relevant background.

The role is fully remote.

How to ApplySend us

1. Your CV / resume
2. A short introduction about yourself and your reading interests
3. Any relevant editing, publishing, writing, or literary experience
4. A sample of your previous editorial work, if available

Shortlisted candidates will be given an editorial assessment as part of the selection process. Apply at: [email protected]

(Only applications sent by email will be considered)
