About the Role
We are looking for an experienced SEO Deputy Manager to drive organic growth, keyword visibility, and content performance across our digital platforms.
The ideal candidate should have robust expertise in content strategy, keyword research,
content optimisation, technical SEO, and SEO analytics, with a preference for candidates from a news media or digital publishing background.
The role will involve working closely with Editorial, Product, Technology, and Analytics teams to identify search opportunities and improve organic performance.
Key Responsibilities - SEO Strategy & Content Growth
- Develop and execute SEO strategies to grow organic traffic, rankings, and search visibility.
- Identify keyword and content opportunities through search trends, competitor analysis, and SERP research.
- Build content strategies around topic clusters, evergreen content, trending topics, and high-value search queries.
- Identify content gaps and opportunities for growth.
News & Editorial SEO
- Drive SEO strategy for breaking news, trending topics, evergreen stories, explainers, and major events.
- Work with editorial teams on SEO-friendly headlines, keywords, content structure, metadata, and internal linking.
- Develop strategies to improve visibility across Google Search, Google News, and Google Discover.
- Monitor emerging search trends and provide timely recommendations to editorial teams.
Keyword Research & Ranking
- Own keyword research, keyword mapping, and ranking strategies.
- Monitor keyword performance and identify opportunities to improve rankings.
- Analyse ranking drops and develop recovery strategies.
- Track competitor rankings and identify areas for growth.
Content Optimisation
- Optimise existing content to improve rankings, traffic, CTR, and engagement.
- Conduct regular content audits and recommend content refresh, consolidation, or removal.
- Optimise titles, headings, metadata, URLs, internal links, images, and content structure.
- Ensure content aligns with search intent and E-E-A-T principles.
Technical SEO
- Conduct technical SEO audits and identify issues impacting crawling, indexing, and rankings.
- Work with Technology and Product teams on technical SEO implementation.
- Support SEO requirements for website launches, redesigns, migrations, and new features.
SEO Analytics & Reporting
- Monitor SEO performance using Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush/Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Looker Studio, and other relevant tools.
- Analyse SEO trends, traffic changes, ranking performance, and content performance.
- Prepare regular SEO reports and actionable recommendations.
- Analyse the impact of Google algorithm updates and implement recovery/growth strategies.
Competitor & Market Analysis
- Monitor competitor SEO strategies, rankings, content, and search visibility.
- Identify emerging topics, search trends, and opportunities to outperform competitors.
Collaboration & Team Support
- Work closely with Editorial, Product, Technology, and Analytics teams to execute SEO initiatives.
- Provide SEO guidance and training to writers and editors.
- Create SEO best practices and processes for content teams.
- Mentor and support junior SEO team members where required.
Requirements
- 6–7 years of hands-on SEO experience, preferably in news media, digital publishing, or high-volume content environments.
- Strong understanding of content SEO, technical SEO, keyword research, and content strategy.
- Proven experience in improving keyword rankings and organic traffic.
- Strong understanding of Google Search, Google News, and Google Discover.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with editorial and technology teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Hands-on experience with Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush/Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Looker Studio, and Excel/Google Sheets.
Good to Have
- Experience handling SEO for breaking news and trending topics.
- Knowledge of structured data, Core Web Vitals, JavaScript SEO, and website migrations.
- Exposure to ASO, AEO, GEO, and AI search.
- Experience working on large-scale news or publishing websites.
