Role Description The BMC Discovery Lead is a remote role responsible for owning and overseeing the implementation, configuration, and optimization of BMC Discovery across client environments. This role includes designing and maintaining discovery patterns, integrating BMC Discovery with related ITSM and CMDB tools, and ensuring accurate, up-to-date configuration data to support IT operations and governance. The BMC Discovery Lead collaborates with architects, infrastructure teams, and client stakeholders to assess requirements, define standards, and align discovery processes with business and compliance needs.

Day-to-day activities involve troubleshooting discovery issues, improving coverage and performance, documenting procedures and best practices, and mentoring technical team members. The role also contributes to solution proposals, supports pre-sales or discovery assessments, and participates in continuous improvement initiatives for configuration management and asset visibility.

Qualifications

- Strong expertise in BMC Discovery (installation, configuration, upgrade, pattern customization, and administration) and experience leading discovery implementations or migrations.




- Hands-on experience with CMDB design and management, ITSM/ITOM tool integration (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Helix), and configuration management processes aligned with ITIL best practices.
- Solid understanding of infrastructure technologies, including servers, networks, cloud platforms, middleware, and applications, with the ability to interpret and model complex dependencies.
- Proficiency in scripting or automation (such as Shell, Python, or similar) to enhance discovery, reporting, and operational workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose discovery-related issues, optimize performance, and recommend practical solutions.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, business-focused language and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience working in remote, distributed teams, demonstrating self-motivation, time management, and accountability in a client-facing workplace.
