Biomedical Engineer – Hospital Equipment & Maintenance

Minimum Experience: 1 year

1. Job Purpose

The Biomedical Engineer will be responsible for the safe, reliable, calibrated and functional condition of all biomedical equipment at Rane Hospital. The role requires independent working, proactive preventive maintenance, vendor coordination, documentation and timely resolution of equipment-related issues. The BME is expected to take complete ownership of biomedical equipment, rather than waiting for instructions or equipment breakdowns to be reported.

1. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Equipment Inspection & Calibration

- Independently inspect all biomedical equipment immediately upon joining and prepare an updated equipment inventory.
- Check operational condition, safety, calibration status and maintenance requirements of equipment.
- Ensure timely calibration, preventive maintenance and performance checks as per manufacturer recommendations and hospital requirements.
- Maintain records for critical equipment including ventilators, defibrillators, monitors, infusion/syringe pumps, ECG, OT equipment, Cath Lab equipment and other life-support equipment.
- Identify defective, unsafe or malfunctioning equipment and immediately escalate the same to the Hospital Administrator.

B. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance
- Prepare and maintain an Annual Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Plan.
- Maintain a continuous maintenance tracker covering preventive maintenance, calibration, breakdowns and repairs.




- Ensure preventive maintenance is completed before the due date, with no avoidable lapses.
- Coordinate breakdown repairs and ensure timely restoration of equipment.
- Verify equipment performance after servicing/repair before returning it to clinical use.

C. Vendor & AMC Management
- Maintain an updated master list of all biomedical equipment vendors, service providers and manufacturers.
- Maintain AMC/CMC details, contact persons, service dates, warranty status and contract expiry dates.
- Coordinate with vendors for AMC, calibration, repairs and technical support.
- Follow up proactively for pending services and unresolved complaints.
- Maintain proper documentation of all vendor visits and service reports.

D. Cath Lab, OT & Critical Care Equipment The BME shall give particular attention to equipment used in:
- Cath Lab
- Cardiac OT and General OT
- ICU
- Emergency and resuscitation areas
- Wards and diagnostic areas

Critical equipment must be regularly checked and any risk affecting patient safety must be immediately brought to the attention of the Hospital Administrator and concerned clinical department. E. Documentation & NABH Compliance

- Maintain complete and updated biomedical equipment records as required for NABH and hospital quality systems.
- Ensure equipment files contain applicable installation, calibration, preventive maintenance,



breakdown and service records.
- Maintain equipment identification/asset numbers and service history.
- Ensure all records are current and readily available for inspection or audit.

1. Accountability & Performance Expectations

The BME is expected to demonstrate:
- Responsibility: Take ownership of all biomedical equipment assigned to the hospital.
- Accountability: Ensure maintenance, calibration and documentation are completed within prescribed timelines.
- Initiative: Identify problems and take corrective action without waiting for instructions.
- Leadership: Coordinate effectively with clinical departments, nursing staff, technicians and external vendors.
- Proactive working: Prevent equipment failures wherever reasonably possible through proper preventive maintenance.
- Patient Safety: Treat equipment safety and functionality as a direct patient-safety responsibility.
- Professional conduct: Maintain accurate records and communicate equipment-related risks promptly to management.

1. Minimum Qualification & Experience

- Degree/Diploma in Biomedical Engineering / Biomedical Instrumentation / Electronics & Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year relevant work experience in a hospital, healthcare facility or biomedical equipment service setting.
- Should have practical knowledge of medical equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and vendor coordination.
- Ability to independently manage biomedical equipment documentation and maintenance trackers.

Pay: From ₹25,000.00 per month
