ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supplier Industrialization Execution
- Support industrialization of new plastic components and assemblies at suppliers, ensuring readiness for production scale-up.
- Partner with suppliers to develop and validate injection molding processes, including tooling qualification, process capability, and control plans.
- Execute APQP, PPAP, and product/process validation activities for new product launches.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks during product development and launch phases.
- Support supplier selection by evaluating technical capabilities in plastics manufacturing and tooling.
Plastics Materials & Process Engineering
- Provide technical expertise in injection molding processes, tooling design, and thermoplastic materials.
- Support development and optimization of molding processes (e.g., cycle time, shrinkage, warpage, cosmetic quality).
- Evaluate and recommend materials, including engineered thermoplastics and composites, based on performance and manufacturability requirements.
- Collaborate on compounding strategies, resin selection, and material qualification.
- Troubleshoot process and tooling issues, including mold flow, defects, and variability.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Partner with Product Engineering to ensure designs are optimized for injection molding and high-volume manufacturing.
- Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and support GD&T; interpretation and application.
- Review and influence tool design, gating strategies, cooling systems, and part geometry.
- performance, and production efficiency.
Global Collaboration
- Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement,
and Quality teams across regions to ensure successful product launches.
- Travel to supplier sites as required (2040%).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:
Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in plastics engineering, manufacturing engineering, or supplier industrialization.
- Hands-on experience with injection molding processes and tooling design.
- Experience supporting new product development (NPD/NPI) and product launches.
- Experience working with suppliers in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Materials Science, or related field required.
Skills and Capabilities
- Strong English communication skills (Verbal and written - technical)
- Strong knowledge of injection molding processes, tooling design, and mold qualification.
- Experience with thermoplastics, thermoplastic composites, and compounding processes.
- Understanding of GD&T;, tolerance analysis, and dimensional control.
- Proficiency in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for plastic components.
- Familiarity with mold flow analysis and process simulation tools (preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in statistical methods (SPC, DOE, capability analysis).
- Ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing and process issues.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional and supplier teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a rapid-paced, global environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
- Self-motivated and results-driven with a continuous improvement mindset
