While the role is project-based, high-performing individuals may be considered for future assignments or permanent roles based on business needs and performance. Candidates should be comfortable with project-based employment and willing to relocate or commute to the site location for the contract period.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Steel Foreman to supervise reinforcement steel works for a commercial building construction project in Vijayawada. The candidate will be responsible for managing bar bending, cutting, fixing, and reinforcement activities as per approved structural drawings, Bar Bending Schedules (BBS), specifications, and site requirements.

The Steel Foreman will coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and steel fixers to ensure reinforcement work is completed safely, accurately, and within the project schedule.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise all reinforcement steel / rebar activities at the construction site.
- Read and understand structural drawings, reinforcement drawings, and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS).
- Plan daily steel fixing activities according to the construction programme.
- Supervise cutting, bending, tying, and fixing of reinforcement steel.
- Ensure correct bar diameter, spacing, lap length, development length, anchorage, and reinforcement placement.
- Check reinforcement for columns,



beams, slabs, foundations, retaining walls, staircases, and other RCC structural elements.
- Ensure reinforcement is completed according to approved drawings and technical specifications.
- Check proper concrete cover using approved cover blocks and spacers.
- Coordinate with Site Engineers before requesting reinforcement inspection.
- Ensure reinforcement is ready for inspection before concrete pouring.
- Manage steel fixers, helpers, and bar bending workers and allocate manpower according to daily requirements.
- Monitor productivity of workers and ensure completion of planned quantities.
- Coordinate with bar bending yard/team for timely cutting and bending of reinforcement.
- Verify bar marks and quantities against BBS.
- Minimise wastage of reinforcement steel through proper cutting and utilisation of scrap lengths.
- Maintain control over steel consumption and report abnormal wastage to the Site Engineer/Project Engineer.
- Ensure reinforcement materials are properly stacked according to diameter and grade.
- Coordinate material requirements with the site/store team.
- Check availability of binding wire, cover blocks, chairs, spacers, and other reinforcement accessories.
- Ensure proper housekeeping at reinforcement working areas.
- Follow site safety procedures and ensure workers use required PPE.
- Ensure safe handling, lifting,



and shifting of reinforcement bars.
- Coordinate with shuttering/formwork and concrete teams to avoid delays.
- Report drawing discrepancies, site difficulties, or reinforcement clashes to the Site Engineer.
- Maintain daily manpower and work progress records when required.
- Ensure rectification of reinforcement observations raised by engineers, consultants, or QA/QC personnel.

Required Skills

- Strong practical knowledge of reinforcement steel fixing.
- Ability to read structural and reinforcement drawings.
- Positive understanding of Bar Bending Schedule (BBS).
- Knowledge of reinforcement detailing for RCC structures.
- Understanding of lap lengths, development lengths, anchorage, spacing, and concrete cover.
- Ability to calculate approximate steel quantities from drawings/BBS.
- Good manpower handling and team supervision skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with engineers and other site trades.
- Knowledge of construction site safety procedures.
- Ability to work under project deadlines and achieve daily production targets.

Qualification & Experience

- Minimum Qualification: ITI in a relevant trade or Diploma in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Preferred: Certification in reinforcement steel fixing or structural detailing (e.g., BBS preparation).
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a Steel/Rebar Foreman on commercial construction projects.
- Alternative Consideration: Candidates with strong practical site experience and proven competence (minimum 5+ years) may be considered even without formal technical qualifications.
