Ruthvik Infotech GIS 3 Month Internship:

Objective:

To provide hands-on training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), focusing on spatial data management, analysis, and visualization, enabling participants to apply GIS tools to real-world problems.

Month 1 – GIS Fundamentals
Introduction to GIS concepts
Coordinate systems and map projections
Vector and raster data
Creating and editing data in ArcGIS Pro and QGIS
Geodatabases and shapefiles
Map layouts and cartography
GPS and field data collection
Basic geoprocessing tools (Buffer, Clip, Merge, Dissolve)

Month 2 – LiDAR & Remote Sensing
LiDAR fundamentals (LAS/LAZ formats)
Point cloud visualization and editing
Point classification (ground, vegetation, buildings)
DEM, DTM, and DSM generation
Contour creation
Hillshade and slope analysis
Feature extraction (roads, buildings, utilities)
Software such as TerraScan, Global Mapper, CloudCompare, and ArcGIS Pro





Month 3 – Live Project & Industry Workflow
Road centerline extraction
Bridge and pavement mapping
Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
Attribute editing and topology validation
3D visualization
Project documentation and reporting
Final project presentation using real-world datasets

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the internship, participants should be able to:
Process LAS/LAZ point clouds
Create DEMs, DTMs, and contours
Edit GIS datasets and geodatabases
Extract road centerlines and other infrastructure features
Perform spatial analysis and prepare skilled-quality maps
Apply QA/QC procedures to GIS and LiDAR data
