A Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and controlling a company’s costs to improve profitability and efficiency. They collect and interpret cost data, prepare reports, and support management in budgeting and decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze production costs, materials, labor, and overhead expenses.
Prepare cost reports and present findings to management.
Develop and maintain standard costing systems.
Monitor inventory valuation and conduct cost audits.
Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend improvements.
Reconcile cost accounts with the general ledger.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Support pricing decisions and profitability analysis.
Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Skilled certification (e.g., CMA, CPA) preferred.
Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
Knowledge of cost accounting principles and methods.
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
Valuable communication and reporting skills.
Experience Requirements:
Typically 2–5 years of experience in cost accounting or a similar role
Experience in manufacturing or production environments is often preferred
