Optometrist Job Description
An Optometrist is a healthcare professional who examines eyes, diagnoses vision problems, prescribes corrective lenses, and helps detect eye diseases and conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess vision and eye health.
Diagnose refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
Prescribe and fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
Detect and monitor eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.
Educate patients on eye care, vision correction options, and preventive measures.
Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists when necessary.
Maintain accurate patient records and treatment plans.
Use diagnostic equipment and interpret test results.
Required Qualifications
Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree or equivalent qualification recognized in the country of practice.
Valid qualified license or registration.
Knowledge of ocular diseases, vision therapy,
and optical products.
Robust clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency with optometric instruments and electronic medical records.
Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
