Role Description The Safety Officer is a full-time on-site role based in Chennai, responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment across transport and logistics operations. Daily activities include monitoring workplace and yard conditions, conducting safety inspections of vehicles and facilities, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and transportation regulations. The role involves identifying potential hazards, supporting accident investigations, maintaining safety records, and recommending preventive measures. The Safety Officer will deliver safety training and toolbox talks to staff and drivers, coordinate with operations and management on risk mitigation, and support implementation of safety policies, emergency response procedures, and security protocols.
Qualifications





- Strong Health & Safety and Occupational Health knowledge, with the ability to apply regulations and best practices in transportation and logistics environments.
- Experience in Accident Investigation and incident reporting, including root cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Proficiency in Safety Training, with the ability to design and deliver safety awareness sessions, toolbox talks, and refresher training for diverse teams.
- Understanding of Security practices related to transport operations, including safeguarding people, vehicles, and cargo.
- Relevant education or certification in safety, occupational health, industrial safety, or a related field (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent local qualification preferred).
- Knowledge of applicable local and national safety and transport regulations, and familiarity with risk assessment and safety audit processes.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with drivers, supervisors, and management.
- Proven ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and to influence safe behavior through coaching and example.
