The mandate
We are migrating from a legacy .NET system to ERPNext across HR, Hospital Management, Purchase & Stock, Event Management, Manufacturing, School Management, Guest House and Transport. Part of the work has been done by an external partner; the rest will be built in-house.
Over three to four years this instance will go through several major ERPNext versions. How you write code now determines whether those upgrades are routine or painful. That is the single thing we care most about.
Responsibilities
Development
- Build and maintain customisations in a separate custom app, never by modifying standard apps
- Write server-side Python — controllers, hooks, scheduled jobs, whitelisted methods, background workers
- Write client scripts, custom reports (Query and Script), print formats and dashboards
- Build custom DocTypes where a standard DocType genuinely cannot be extended
Upgrade safety
- Choose the least invasive method available for any change, and be able to justify the choice
- Keep fixtures,
patches and migrations clean so bench migrate runs without manual intervention
- Test customisations against new versions before upgrade, not after
Data migration
- Build and run migration scripts from the legacy .NET system
- Design validation, error reporting, reconciliation and rollback for every migration run
Integration
- Build integrations with biometric devices, payment gateways, SMS and WhatsApp providers, and hospital systems
- Handle authentication, failure, retry and logging properly
Performance and stability
- Diagnose and fix slow list views, reports and background jobs
- Add indexes, optimise queries, and know when the answer is a database change rather than a code change
Code discipline
- All code in Git, in the institution's repository, with meaningful commits and feature branches
- No code reaches production without review and without a way to roll it back
- Document what you build
Requirements
Essential
- 3–5 years of hands-on Frappe/ERPNext development
- Strong Python; MariaDB and SQL; JavaScript
- Have built and deployed at least one custom Frappe app of your own
- Have upgraded a live ERPNext instance across a major version and dealt with what broke
- Git — branching, merging, and a working deployment practice
- Currently based and working in India, and willing to relocate permanently to Udaipur
Desirable
- Frappe UI / Vue, portal pages
- Linux server administration, bench setup, backup and restore
- Experience with HRMS or Healthcare apps
- Having read enough of the ERPNext source to know where things actually happen
What we offer
- We are a non-profit and our compensation reflects that. What we offer is a system you will build from the ground up and then own — not a ticket queue, not one small module in someone else's product.
