About The Company

BlackTeal is a fast-growing energy technology company building the next generation of energy management systems — combining hardware (batteries and Battery Management Systems) with intelligent software, including advanced monitoring algorithms and an Energy Management System (EMS) that controls third-party components at power plants. The product is live and functional on both the frontend and backend — but has never had a dedicated designer. That's about to change.

The Role

You'll be this company's first UI/UX Designer, joining at a pivotal moment. Existing screens were built without design input and need a redesign, and there's a growing list of new screens to design as the product expands. You'll have real ownership from day one — shaping not just individual screens, but how design gets done going forward.

This is a fast-moving, high-ownership role with a hard deadline. We need someone who can start contributing immediately, with little to no ramp-up time.

What You'll Do

- Redesign existing product screens to improve clarity, usability, and visual quality




- Design new screens and flows as the product's feature set grows
- Work closely with the US-based product lead and engineering team to translate requirements into polished, production-ready designs
- Build and maintain design consistency across a data-dense, dashboard-heavy SaaS product
- Use AI tools to accelerate exploration and ideation — while ensuring final designs are refined, considered, and human-led

What We're Looking For

- 3–5 years of UI/UX design experience
- Strongly preferred: experience designing for energy, utilities, IoT, or industrial monitoring products
- Also considered: strong B2B SaaS, dashboard, or data visualization design experience
- Proficiency in Figma — component libraries, variants, auto-layout, and developer handoff
- A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end process: research, wireframing, high-fidelity design, and handoff
- Excellent written and verbal English communication — you'll work directly with a US-based team and client base
- Comfort using AI design tools for exploration, without relying on them for final, unrefined output
- Ability to work independently and make sound design decisions with minimal oversight, as the company's first and only designer initially

Nice to Have





- Experience designing for non-technical or field-based users alongside technical/expert users on the same platform
- Familiarity with real-time or high-frequency data visualization (monitoring dashboards, alerts, thresholds)
- Experience working in an early-stage startup environment

Work Setup

- Remote for now, based in India
- Transitioning to an in-office hybrid setup from a new Hyderabad office (opening next month)
- Working hours aligned to India time zone, with a required daily overlap sync with the US-based product lead

Interview Process

- Round 1 - background, experience, portfolio, design problems.
- Round 2 - product/domain understanding and design/customer thinking with CPO
- Round 3 - cultural fitment with CEO
