Description
Suitable candidate for this role is a Civil Design Engineer with proven experience in the design and delivery of buried pipeline infrastructure for water, wastewater and stormwater projects. The role requires a robust understanding of pipeline alignment development, hydraulic design and the detailed design of associated civil structures. The successful candidate will be proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D and capable of developing three-dimensional pipe networks, long sections and coordinated designs that integrate hydraulic, utility, operational and construction requirements.
Responsibilities
- The candidate should have experience designing horizontal and vertical pipeline alignments to satisfy hydraulic performance criteria while minimising utility conflicts and construction risks.
- They will be familiar with hydraulic principles relevant to gravity and pressure pipeline systems, including Manning's equation, Colebrook-White analysis, hydraulic grade line development, shear stress assessment and self-cleansing velocity requirements.
- A sound understanding of pipe material selection is required, including the relative advantages, limitations and application of PVC, PE, GRP, steel and concrete pipe systems.
- Experience in developing general arrangement drawings and detailed layouts for manholes, hydraulic control structures, valve chambers, maintenance access arrangements and other pipeline appurtenances.
- The candidate should be able to apply operational, maintenance, safety and constructability considerations when developing these designs.
- Knowledge of structural design requirements for buried pipelines is desirable, including familiarity with flexible pipe design principles in accordance with AS/NZS 2566 and rigid concrete pipe design in accordance with AS/NZS 3725.
- Produce reports and presentations at high levels of professional and technical calibre suitable for presenting to clients.
- Apply sound engineering judgement and best practices to ar
