Job Description
Position Title:Deputy Manager,IRPL Maintenance
Department: Maintenance,IRPL
Reports To: Sr. Manager
Location: Guwahati
Grade:M-5
Division:IRPL1.
Role Objective
To oversee the maintenance and repair operations of the IRPL truck fleet, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. The role involves managing the maintenance team, coordinating preventive and breakdown maintenance schedules, controlling repair and inventory costs, and maximizing fleet availability to support uninterrupted logistics operations.
2. Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the maintenance team, providing guidance, training, and day-to-day support.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure regular inspections and timely repairs across the fleet.
Ensure minimum 90% fleet availability on road at any given time.
¢ Coordinate with Operations and Logistics teams to minimize vehicle downtime and optimize fleet utilization.
¢ Oversee tyre health management and drive reduction in tyre cost per KM through systematic inspections and timely interventions.
¢ Maintain truck body condition to prevent cargo damage and ensure vehicle fitness.
¢ Optimize inventory and consumable expenses through effective planning and control.
¢ Handle repair & maintenance expenses, voucher verification, and cost control measures.
¢ Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers for quality parts and services; negotiate favourable contracts and terms.
¢ Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and expenses.
¢ Generate regular reports on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and key performance indicators for management.
¢ Develop and implement emergency response plans for breakdowns, accidents,
and unexpected fleet disruptions.
¢ Assume overall maintenance responsibility for the assigned fleet (approx. 100+ vehicles).

¢ Fleet on-road availability Target ¥ 90% (25%)
¢ Reduction in tyre cost per KM through health check-ups and planned replacements (15%)
¢ Control of repair & maintenance and inventory/consumable expenses (15%)
¢ Timely completion of preventive maintenance schedules (15%)
¢ Accuracy and quality of maintenance records and MIS reports (15%)

5. Qualification & Experience
¢ Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field
¢ Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in fleet maintenance / workshop management
¢ Prior experience in managing a team of technicians and handling large commercial vehicle fleets preferred
¢ Age: Around 35 years (as per role requirement)
