About Mealawe

Mealawe is a food-tech platform focused on making everyday meals more convenient, affordable and homely. We are building a highly engaging consumer product where visual design, illustration and motion are an important part of the overall customer experience.

We want Mealawe to have a distinctive visual personality not just good-looking screens, but an app that feels alive through contextual illustrations, animated headers, micro-interactions, celebrations and delightful moments throughout the customer journey.

The Role

We are looking for a highly creative Visual & Motion Designer who can combine strong graphic design, illustration and animation skills to create memorable digital experiences for the Mealawe app.

This is not a conventional graphic designer role.

We are looking for someone who can take an idea such as:

and transform it into an expressive visual concept and then bring that concept to life through illustration, motion and Lottie animation. The ideal person should be equally comfortable thinking creatively and executing independently.

What You Will Do

Product Visual & Motion Design

- Create high-quality Lottie animations for the Mealawe mobile app.
- Design animated homepage headers inspired by the level of contextual storytelling seen in leading consumer apps.
- Create contextual visual experiences based on time, weather, festivals, seasons, user behaviour, offers and occasions.
- Develop animations for product moments such as:

- Splash and onboarding

- Login

- Homepage headers

- Subscription plans

- Add to cart

- Order confirmation

- Payment success / failure

- Meal preparation

- Rider movement / delivery

- Subscription renewal

- Empty states

- Rewards and milestones

- Offers and campaigns

- Success and celebration moments

Illustration & Graphic Design

- Create original 2D illustrations, characters, food illustrations, environments, icons and visual assets.
- Build vibrant compositions suitable for a modern Indian consumer food brand.
- Develop reusable visual assets and illustration systems for Mealawe.
- Create campaign graphics, app banners and digital creatives when required.
- Maintain consistency across illustration, typography, colour, composition and motion.

Motion Design





- Turn static illustrations into engaging motion experiences.

- Understand animation principles including timing, easing, anticipation, follow-through, secondary motion and visual rhythm.

Lottie Production The candidate should have strong practical knowledge of creating production-ready Lottie files, not simply motion videos.

Responsibilities include

- Creating animations in After Effects suitable for Lottie export.
- Working with Bodymovin / LottieFiles.
- Understanding what After Effects features are and are not supported by Lottie.
- Avoiding unsupported effects while designing animations.
- Optimising JSON file sizes.
- Converting artwork into clean vector assets before animation.
- Working with shape layers, masks, paths, parenting, null objects and expressions where appropriate.
- Testing animations across Android, iOS and web.

- Troubleshooting issues such as

- Merge Paths

- Gradients

- Masks

- Track mattes

- Text

- Raster images

- Unsupported effects

- Excessive JSON size

- Rendering differences across devices

Creative Thinking This is one of the most important parts of the role.

We don't want someone who only waits for a storyboard.

The designer should be able to receive a brief such as:

"It is raining in Kota. How can Mealawe make the homepage feel special today?"

and independently develop ideas such as rain interacting with the interface, steaming food, animated umbrellas, droplets, warm meals, contextual copy or another original visual direction.

Similarly, for Diwali, Holi, Christmas, Janmashtami, Independence Day or a Mealawe milestone, the designer should be capable of developing an original visual world and motion concept, rather than simply adding festival elements to an existing banner.

- Can work comfortably with Product, UI/UX, Marketing and Engineering teams.
- Can move rapidly from idea sketch visual design animation production-ready Lottie.
- Experiments constantly with new styles and motion techniques.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
- Understands that motion should improve the customer experience, not merely decorate the screen.

Candidates must share a portfolio showing actual work in at least three of the following areas:

Showreel-only applications will not be sufficient. We would like to understand the candidate's contribution to individual projects and see both the static design and final animation wherever possible.

What Success Looks Like

Within this role, you should help develop a recognisable Mealawe Motion & Illustration Language so that over time customers can recognise a Mealawe visual even before seeing the logo.

The objective is to turn everyday app moments into small moments of delight while keeping animations lightweight, purposeful and production-friendly.
