Role Description The Senior SQL Database Administrator is a full-time, in office role based in Chennai. This role is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing SQL databases that support HummingBird’s AI-powered talent platform, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.

Day-to-day activities include designing and implementing database structures, monitoring database health, performing performance tuning, and managing backups and recovery strategies. The Senior SQL Database Administrator will oversee replication and clustering, troubleshoot complex database issues, and collaborate with engineering and product teams to support new features and data initiatives.



The role also involves implementing best practices for data integrity, contributing to automation efforts, and mentoring team members on database standards and processes.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in Database Administration for SQL Server or similar relational databases, including installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Experience with Database Design and Databases, including schema design, normalization, indexing strategies, and capacity planning.
- Proficiency in Replication and related high-availability technologies (e.g., Always On, clustering, mirroring) to ensure data consistency and uptime.
- Advanced Troubleshooting skills for performance issues, query optimization, locking and blocking, and error resolution in production environments.
- Hands-on experience with backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and security best practices (roles, permissions, encryption).
- Strong SQL scripting skills and familiarity with automation tools for deployments, monitoring, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with software engineers, data engineers, and DevOps teams within a fast-paced product environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in SaaS or data-intensive platforms; exposure to AI/analytics workloads and cloud environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) is beneficial.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on reliability
