Siliguri

Reports to: Partner, VP

Supervises: Associate and Trainee team members, and the offshore delivery team

Location: Gurgaon, India

Purpose Own the enquiry-to-engagement journey for inbound accounts and tax work - qualifying enquiries, scoping and pricing, converting, and reviewing delivery to a standard that supports partner sign-off - across whichever tax regime a matter falls under.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the delivery of accounts and tax services across personal tax, business and corporate tax, indirect tax, statutory accounts, and company and group structures, in line with the legislation and revenue authority guidance applicable to the matter.
- Take primary responsibility for inbound enquiries - establishing the client's circumstances, entity structure, activity, quality of accounting records and filing history - and determining the appropriate advisory or compliance route.
- Scope the technical requirement on new matters, distinguishing what the client requires from what has been requested, and filtering work that falls outside the firm's service range.
- Research and resolve unfamiliar technical questions from primary sources - legislation, revenue authority guidance and case law - and reach a position that can be documented.
- Review and approve service proposals, fee quotes and scope of work prepared by Associate and Trainee team members, prior to partner approval and issue.
- Prepare and review accounts, computations, reports and supporting documentation, applying change control where records quality or scope is uncertain.
- Supervise, allocate and review the work of Associate and Trainee team members and the offshore delivery team, maintaining a documented review standard that supports partner sign-off. • Provide technical training and development support to junior team members, including structured feedback on reviewed work.
- Maintain accurate client and pipeline records across the team's matters,

ensuring stage, value, service category and next action are current.
- Manage capacity and turnaround across allocated matters, escalating resourcing shortfalls in advance of delivery risk.
- Maintain and develop advanced technical knowledge across accounts preparation, income and personal taxation, corporate taxation, capital taxes, indirect taxation and payroll, and build depth in the firm's specialist service lines.
- Apply professional judgement and ethical standards to the standard expected of a recognised professional accountancy or tax body, escalating technical, regulatory and risk matters to partner level without delay.
- Contribute to service line development, pricing review and process improvement, and support the progression of team members into senior advisory roles.

Essential

Technical background

- A solid general accounts and tax background, gained in practice or in a comparable delivery role, in any jurisdiction. Formal qualification is not compulsory. Qualified, part-qualified and qualified-by experience candidates are all considered - ACCA, ACA, CA, CPA, CTA, ATT, CIMA, AAT, an equivalent qualification from any jurisdiction, or none - provided the underlying technical ability is demonstrable.
- Minimum three years in accounts and tax work, with substantive client delivery responsibility.
- Working competence across the general base: accounts preparation, business and personal tax computations, indirect tax, payroll, or company and partnership accounts.

- Able to pick up an unfamiliar regime or tax quickly, work from source material, and know when a point needs escalating rather than assuming.
- Strong numeracy and analytical reasoning, with the discipline to check figures before they leave the desk.

Communication

- Excellent spoken and written English, capable of client-facing correspondence and reports that need no rewriting.
- Confident and personable on the telephone and on video calls, including with clients met for the first time.
- Able to explain a technical position in plain English to a non-specialist, and to say what it means for the client in practice.
- A careful listener in fact-finding: asks the question behind the question, and confirms understanding before advising.
- Composed and professional in difficult conversations - fee discussions, delays, poor records, or unwelcome answers.
- Clear and unambiguous in internal communication: instructions to junior colleagues, review notes, and escalations to partner level.

Working style

- Able to scope and price unfamiliar work accurately, and to recognise when not to.
- Demonstrable experience reviewing others' work and giving corrective feedback.
- Comfortable at volume: several new enquiries a day alongside delivery and review obligations.
- Accurate and disciplined with client and pipeline records.

Desirable

- Exposure to accounts and taxation job.
- Experience preparing proposals, fee quotes and engagement letters.
