Role & responsibilities

- Ensure protected, smooth and efficient operation of the 200 TPH Reheating Furnace to meet the production and rolling schedule.
- Plan and coordinate furnace charging, heating and billet discharge as per the requirement of the SPM Mill Area In-Charge.
- Maintain proper furnace temperature, pressure, heating pattern and residence time to achieve the required billet temperature and temperature uniformity.
- Monitor and control fuel consumption, specific fuel consumption, scale generation and furnace efficiency.
- Ensure proper coordination between Furnace, Roughing Mill and Mill Operation teams to maintain continuous billet flow and minimize mill delays.
- Monitor furnace parameters including zone temperatures, O %, pressure, exhaust temperature, skid cooling and combustion conditions.
- Ensure billets are heated uniformly and discharged within the specified temperature range as per the rolling requirement.
- Identify and take corrective action for furnace-related issues such as underheating, overheating, temperature variation, excessive scale formation and skid marks.
- Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Refractory teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance of furnace equipment.
- Ensure regular inspection of burners, recuperator, skid pipes, walking hearth mechanism, charging/discharging equipment and water-cooling systems.
- Monitor furnace delays and prepare root cause analysis and corrective actions for major breakdowns and operational losses.
- Optimize furnace operation to achieve the targeted 200 TPH throughput while maintaining product quality and energy efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all Safety, SOP, Work Permit and LOTO procedures, especially for fuel,



gas, high-temperature and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety training for furnace operating manpower and ensure compliance with PPE requirements.
- Maintain proper shift-wise records of production, fuel consumption, furnace parameters, delays and abnormalities.
- Ensure proper manpower deployment and supervise Shift In-Charges, Foremen and Operators working in the furnace area.
- Coordinate closely with the SPM Mill Area In-Charge regarding production planning, section changes, rolling sequence and billet requirements.
- Drive improvement initiatives for reduction of fuel consumption, scale loss, furnace delays and billet temperature variation.
- Ensure implementation of 5S, housekeeping and visual management standards in the furnace area.
- Participate in trials, process improvements and development of new sections/products requiring changes in furnace operating practice.
- Ensure availability and proper utilization of critical furnace spares and consumables.
- Develop and train subordinate employees to improve their technical, operational and safety competency.
- Support achievement of SPM departmental KPIs related to production, mill availability, fuel efficiency, yield, quality and safety.
- Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the SPM Mill Area In-Charge / HOD.
