The Purchase Executive handles the end-to-end procurement of raw materials, metal sheets, consumables, and hardware. The primary goal is to obtain high-quality materials at the most competitive market rates while maintaining optimal inventory control and strict delivery timelines.
⚙️ Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Material Sourcing & Procurement
· Procure raw metals like steel, copper, aluminium, wire rods, sheets, and fabrication consumables.
· Review purchase requisitions and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) schedules to align buying with production needs.
· Issue Purchase Orders (POs) accurately and handle day-to-day procurement operations
2. Vendor Management & Negotiation
· Identify and develop relationships with reliable metal mills, manufacturers, and stockists.
· Float Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and gather multiple vendor quotes.
· Prepare comparative statements (price sheets) to evaluate commercial terms side-by-side.
· Negotiate contract terms, delivery timelines, and bulk-pricing discounts.
3. Supply Chain & Delivery Tracking
· Track open orders and proactively follow up with vendors to expedite delayed shipments.
· Coordinate logistics and check delivery challans, gate entries, and material invoices.
· Resolve disputes regarding metal quality, weight discrepancies,
or damaged transit materials
4. Inventory Control & Record Keeping
· Monitor stock levels to prevent inventory stock outs or capital lockup from overstocking.
· Maintain up-to-date vendor lists, price logs, and material samples
Required Qualifications & Skills
Technical Skills (Hard Skills)
· Industrial Knowledge: Strong understanding of steel/metal grades, gauges, finishes, and current market rates.
· Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP/Tally) and advanced MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
· Procurement Procedures: Clear understanding of taxation (GST), commercial contracts, and supply chain logistics.
Interpersonal Skills (Soft Skills)
· Sharp Negotiation: Proven ability to secure the best commercial terms without reducing product quality.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Smooth coordination with Production, Engineering, Stores/Warehouse, and Accounts departments.
· Attention to Detail: Exact eye for catching discrepancies in mill certificates, commercial invoices, and dimensions.
? Experience & Education Requirements
Experience: Typically 2 to 5 years of hands-on procurement experience specifically within the iron, steel, or sheet metal industry.
