About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Business Intelligence Engineer with expertise in Power BI to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of analytics delivery, from data modeling within data warehouses to creating polished, secure, and production-grade Power BI reports embedded in client-facing applications. This position combines technical proficiency with consultative communication, requiring you to build impactful reports, engineer underlying data structures, and liaise directly with client stakeholders to understand their needs, prioritize tasks, and communicate progress effectively.
The ideal candidate will have experience working on mature analytics programs that include executive dashboards, partner and member performance reports, geospatial analytics, embedded portal analytics, and emerging AI-driven conversational analytics. You should be comfortable troubleshooting complex security configurations, optimizing data warehouse views, and explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative analytics initiatives while maintaining a strong focus on data integrity, security, and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications The successful candidate will possess over five years of hands-on experience in business intelligence and analytics engineering, with a strong emphasis on Power BI. You should demonstrate expert-level proficiency in DAX and Power Query / M language, capable of writing, optimizing,
and debugging complex measures and data transformations. A solid understanding of data modeling principles, including star schema design, relationships, and cardinality, is essential.
Deep practical experience with row-level security (RLS) in Power BI, including its edge cases related to export and embedding, is required.
Advanced SQL skills are necessary, along with substantial experience working with cloud data warehouses, particularly Snowflake. Familiarity with other cloud platforms such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Synapse is acceptable, provided you are willing to ramp up on Snowflake. Proficiency in Python for data workflows, API integrations, and automation is also essential.
A comprehensive understanding of data warehousing, ELT/ETL best practices, and data governance—especially handling sensitive or PII data—is critical. Additionally, experience in stakeholder management, requirement gathering, and translating business needs into technical solutions will ensure success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards, encompassing data modeling, measure creation, and interactive visual layouts.
- Implement and troubleshoot row-level security (RLS), including dynamic and organization-scoped permissions, ensuring security compliance across export, embedding, and cross-group comparisons.
- Develop and optimize semantic data models using Power Query / M and DAX, ensuring high performance, maintainability, and correctness under various security filters.
- Support embedded analytics solutions through Power BI Embedded, managing effective-identity tokens and integration within partner or portal web applications.
- Engineer and optimize data pipelines within Snowflake, including writing SQL, debugging views, and diagnosing dependencies such as masking policies, row-access policies, and view lineage.
- Integrate external data sources, such as public datasets, government APIs,
and demographic/geospatial data, managing schema changes and API versioning over time.
- Create geospatial visualizations, including map layers and boundary data, addressing platform constraints like feature limits, boundary quality, and geocoding challenges.
- Contribute to AI-driven analytics initiatives, such as conversational or natural-language analytics over governed datasets, enhancing data accessibility and insights.
- Conduct data validation and user acceptance testing (UAT) for new pipelines and reports, ensuring accuracy and reliability across raw, curated, and reporting layers.
- Support data governance practices, including documentation, cataloging, and handling sensitive or PII data appropriately.
- Translate complex business requirements into clear technical specifications, maintaining open communication with clients about project status, challenges, and recommendations.
- Produce comprehensive documentation, work breakdown structures, and effort estimates for new requests, ensuring clarity and transparency in project execution.
