Job Summary The Production Planner will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing the master production schedule for the manufacturing of electromagnetic components, including transformers, inductors, and chokes. This role is essential for optimizing production efficiency, ensuring on-time delivery (OTD) to customers, and maintaining optimal inventory levels of finished goods and work-in-progress (WIP). The ideal candidate will have experience in production planning within a discrete manufacturing environment, preferably the electronics or electrical components sector.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop the Master Production Schedule and detailed daily/weekly manufacturing schedules based on sales forecasts, customer orders, and resource capacity.
- Determine the optimal sequence of operations and machine loading to minimize changeovers and maximize throughput for winding, assembly, and testing processes.
- Monitor and analyze current production capacity (labour, machinery, and tooling) against planned demand, identifying and escalating potential bottlenecks or capacity shortfalls.
- Coordinate with the Production Manager to adjust resource allocation and shift patterns as needed.
- Run the MRP system regularly to generate material requirements and convert them into Purchase Requisitions for the Procurement department.
- Work closely with the Purchasing team to ensure timely arrival of critical components (e.g., copper wire, core materials) to meet the production schedule.
- Track key performance indicators (KPI) such as On-Time Delivery (OTD), schedule attainment, lead time adherence, and inventory accuracy.
- Identify variances from the plan and implement corrective actions.
- Optimize WIP and finished goods inventory levels to reduce holding costs while meeting service targets.
Required Competencies
- Expert-level ability to create and manage complex, multi-stage production schedules, often in a high-mix, low-volume (HMLV) or project-based environment.
- Strong functional knowledge of MRP logic and hands-on experience utilizing major ERP systems (e.g., SAP PP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) for planning, scheduling, and transaction management.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate and model production capacity and its constraints.
- Understanding of basic statistical forecasting methods and their application in converting sales data into an executable production plan.
- Practical understanding of lean concepts (e.g., Takt time, Kanban, flow) and how to apply them to improve scheduling efficiency.
Required Experience
- 3+ years of progressive experience in a dedicated Production Planning, Scheduling, or Material Planning role within a manufacturing setting.
- Experience in the Electronics, Electrical Components, or Discrete Manufacturing industry is mandatory, ideally dealing with components that require precise winding or assembly (like transformers or motors).
Essential Education and Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business,
Operations Management, or a related technical field.
- Professional certification such as CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Skilled) from APICS.
Necessary Skills
- Exceptional ability to interpret large datasets, production metrics, and forecast figures to make informed planning decisions.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP / SAP systems & Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, conditional formatting) for schedule modelling and analysis.
- Clear, concise communication skills for collaborating effectively with Sales, Procurement, and Production teams.
- Quick and decisive in addressing scheduling conflicts, material shortages, and unexpected equipment downtime.
Relevant Personality Traits
- Extremely methodical approach to work, capable of managing complex data and documentation.
- Anticipates potential scheduling issues and takes preventative action rather than simply reacting to problems.
- Maintains a high level of accuracy in all planning activities to ensure correct execution on the shop floor.
- Works effectively as a central liaison between multiple departments (Sales, Production, and Purchasing).
Job Demands
- Role Is Based in Dabaspet, Bengaluru Rural, India
- High requirement for continuous analysis, forecasting, and dynamic rescheduling based on fluctuating priorities and demands.
- Must handle pressure associated with meeting strict delivery deadlines and managing competing departmental priorities.
- Primarily an office-based role but requires frequent presence on the manufacturing floor for coordination and troubleshooting.
