Palliative Care Counsellor

Location: Bengaluru

Work Mode: In office / Hybrid

Experience: 1–2 Years

Education: Master’s in clinical psychology / counselling psychology / Psycho-Oncology or a closely related field

Role Overview

We are looking for compassionate and clinically skilled Palliative Care Counsellors to provide psychological and emotional support to patients with advanced and life-limiting illnesses and their caregivers.

The role will primarily focus on palliative-care counselling, helping patients and families cope with emotional distress, uncertainty, treatment-related concerns, changes in quality of life, end of-life concerns, and grief.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct psychological and emotional assessments for patients receiving palliative care.
- Provide individual and family counselling based on the patient’s clinical and emotional needs.
- Support patients in coping with diagnosis, disease progression, treatment-related
- distress, loss of independence, and uncertainty.
- Provide caregiver counselling and support, particularly in situations involving caregiver
- stress, anticipatory grief, and emotional exhaustion.
- Facilitate conversations around quality of life, meaning, hope, fears, treatment
- concerns, and end-of-life issues with sensitivity and appropriate clinical boundaries.
- Support patients and families during diƯicult transitions, including disease progression
- and end-of-life care.
- Provide grief and bereavement support to family members when required.
- Identify psychological distress, anxiety, depression, adjustment diƯiculties, caregiver




- burden, and other psychosocial concerns.
- Provide psychoeducation to patients and caregivers regarding coping, communication,
- emotional regulation, and supportive care.

Key Clinical Focus Areas The role will primarily involve counselling and psychosocial support related to:

- Advanced and metastatic cancer
- Palliative and supportive care
- End-of-life care
- Anticipatory grief and bereavement
- Caregiver stress and caregiver burden
- Anxiety, depression, and adjustment diƯiculties
- Fear of disease progression and uncertainty
- Loss of independence and changes in functioning
- Pain- and symptom-related emotional distress
- Family communication and relationship concerns
- Meaning, hope, dignity, and quality of life

Qualifications & Experience

- Master’s degree in clinical psychology, Counselling Psychology, Psycho-Oncology, or
- a closely related field.
- Candidates with relevant training or experience in Palliative Care, Psycho-Oncology,
- Oncology Counselling, Grief Counselling, or Hospital Psychology will be preferred.
- 1–2 years of relevant clinical experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, counselling, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work sensitively with patients and families facing serious illness and end-of-life concerns.
