Position: Offshore Decommissioning Design Engineer- Mechanical & Structural Design Engineer (Consultant)

Locations: India

Engagement: Consultant/SME; need basis support

Industries/ Domain to focus: heavy-lift engineering, Offshore platforms, Marine, Vessels

Education: B.Eng., M.Eng., or M.Sc. in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Offshore/Naval Architecture, or Civil/Ocean Engineering.

Experience: 12+ years in offshore structural or mechanical design, with direct exposure to North Sea platform decommissioning, heavy lifting, subsea intervention projects.

Role Summary: consultant has good experience in integrated engineering scope for complex, large-scale offshore platform decommissioning projects in the North Sea. You will bridge mechanical systems engineering and heavy structural analysis—designing temporary structural modification frames, cutting equipment deployments, rigging/heavy-lift appliances, and subsea removal tools for end-of-life topsides, jackets, and subsea infrastructure.

- - Develop detailed engineering deliverables for offshore decommissioning projects.
- Prepare and review dismantling, removal, transportation, and installation methodologies.
- Perform structural integrity assessments and analysis of offshore structures.
- Prepare detailed fabrication, modification, demolition, and support integration drawings.
- Execute lifting analysesand evaluate heavy lift requirements.
- Conduct load-out, transportation, sea-fastening, and offshore removal studies.
- Review structural calculations, design assumptions, and technical reports.




- Coordinate with offshore operations teams to ensure engineering deliverables support execution requirements.
- Support risk assessments, constructability reviews, HAZID, and HAZOP workshops.

Structural Engineering & Removal Analysis

- - Structural Integrity & Weakening Engineering: Perform linear/non-linear structural analysis (FEA) to assess platform stability during progressive cutting, module separation, and weight transfer.
- Heavy Lifting & Rigging Design: Design padeyes, trunnions, spreader bars, and lift points in accordance with offshore lifting standards; engineer lift-off energetic analyses and sea-fastening frames for barge transit.
- Jacket & Subsea Structural Removal: Design jacket cutting access, internal/external lifting tools (ILTs/ELTs), pile-severing interfaces, and seabed mudline structural separation schemes.

Mechanical Systems & Cutting Spreads

- - Cutting Tool Integration: Engineer interface frames, track deployment systems, and deployment tooling for cold-cutting machinery (diamond wire saws, abrasive waterjet cutter spreads, milling machines, and hydraulic shears).
- Temporary Utilities & Habitats: Design mechanical habitats, access platforms, pressurization systems,



and containment enclosures for hot-work and severe-environment dismantling zones on aging decks.
- Piping & Isolation Engineering: Coordinate cold-tapping, line flushing/purging manifold designs, and structural pipe-rack separation schemes prior to structural severance.

North Sea Operational Delivery & Compliance

- - Draft comprehensive Technical Work Packages (TWP), Mechanical & Structural Lift Plans, cutting sequences, and offshore execution methodologies.
- Ensure all designs comply with North Sea regulatory frameworks, including UK HSE Offshore Safety Directive / Offshore Installations Regulations and Norwegian PSA (Petroleum Safety Authority) rules.
- Participate in multidisciplinary HAZID, HAZOP, and SIMOPS (Simultaneous Operations) reviews for heavy-lift vessels (HLVs) and platform operations.

Technical Skills

- - Software Suite:
- Structural Engineering: ANSYS, Sesam (GeniE/Sestra), STAAD.Pro, or SACS.
- Mechanical 3D CAD: SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or PTC Creo.
- North Sea Standards & Codes: High proficiency in DNV-ST-N001 (Marine Operations and Marine Warranty), NORSOK (N-001, N-003, N-004), BS EN ISO 19900/19902 (Offshore Structures), ASME B31.3, and LOLER regulations.
