Mechanical Project Engineer

Location:Pune, India

Experience: 8-10 Years

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to manage and coordinate mechanical engineering activities for the design and development of Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), Power Equipment Centers (PECs), modular electrical enclosures, and containerized power systems.

The role will act as a key interface between Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Autodesk Inventor Designers/Draftsmen, Structural Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and clients. The engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, reviewing, and delivering mechanical engineering packages in line with project requirements, schedules, quality standards, and product specifications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical Project Engineering

- Lead and coordinate mechanical engineering activities for PDC, PEC, modular enclosure, and containerized power system projects.
- Understand project scope, client specifications, technical requirements, and contractual deliverables.
- Develop and maintain the mechanical engineering execution plan and deliverable schedule.
- Coordinate engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, structural, HVAC, and other disciplines.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within agreed project timelines.
- Identify technical issues, design constraints, and project risks and drive them to closure.

2. Project Planning & Schedule Management

- Prepare and track mechanical engineering activity schedules and deliverables.
- Coordinate daily/weekly priorities within disciplines.
- Monitor engineering progress against project milestones.
- Identify schedule delays and implement recovery actions.
- Maintain engineering action trackers and ensure timely closure of open items.
- Coordinate to provide accurate engineering status updates.

3. Team Coordination & Resource Management

- Ensure optimum utilization of available engineering resources.




- Review workload and resource requirements for upcoming projects.
- Identify training and capability development requirements within the mechanical design team.
- Promote standardization and reuse of proven design solutions, templates, and engineering practices.

4. Engineering Review & Quality

- Review mechanical design deliverables before internal and client submission.
- Ensure drawings and models meet applicable design standards, specifications, and company engineering procedures.
- Conduct design reviews and coordinate interdisciplinary design checks.
- Ensure correct revision control and engineering documentation.
- Review BOMs and ensure consistency between 3D models, drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Identify design errors and ensure corrective actions are implemented before manufacturing release.

5. Manufacturing & Fabrication Coordination

- Act as the engineering interface with manufacturing and fabrication teams.
- Review manufacturing requirements and ensure designs are suitable for fabrication and assembly.
- Resolve engineering queries raised during fabrication and assembly.
- Support development and review of fabrication drawings.
- Incorporate manufacturing feedback and lessons learned into future designs.
- Support prototype development, first-build activities, FAT, assembly, and commissioning as required.

6. Client & Stakeholder Coordination

- Participate in technical discussions with clients, consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Review client comments and coordinate appropriate design modifications.




- Prepare technical responses and clarifications related to mechanical design.
- Coordinate with Electrical Engineers to ensure electrical equipment layouts and mechanical arrangements are fully integrated.
- Coordinate with Procurement and vendors for equipment dimensions, technical information, and interface requirements.

Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 8–10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design/project engineering.
- Solid experience in mechanical engineering of industrial equipment, skids, modular systems, electrical enclosures, containers, or packaged systems.
- Experience coordinating mechanical designers/draftsmen and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience working with manufacturing, fabrication, procurement, and project management teams.

Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following will be highly advantageous:

- Power Distribution Centers (PDCs)
- Power Equipment Centers (PECs)
- Electrical equipment enclosures
- Containerized power systems
- Sheet metal and fabricated assemblies

Role Expectation The Mechanical Project Engineer is expected to function as the technical and execution coordinator for mechanical engineering activities within assigned projects, ensuring that the Autodesk Inventor design team has clear requirements, priorities, and technical direction, while ensuring that completed engineering packages are technically correct, manufacturable, and delivered on schedule.
