Role Description The Manager - Plating supports the Chemist function by delivering the role outputs and cross-functional coordination described in this . The position contributes to the relevant business and operating processes through the following primary mandate: Ensure stable and consistent plating processes by monitoring and controlling all critical process parameters.
- Ensure stable and consistent plating processes by monitoring and controlling all critical process parameters.
- Optimize plating bath chemistry through regular chemical analysis, additions, and troubleshooting to achieve consistent coating quality.
- Monitor zinc, nickel, passivation, and pre-treatment processes to meet customer and specification requirements.
- Achieve targeted production yield by minimizing defects, rework,
and chemical process variations.
- Analyze plating defects such as poor adhesion, blistering, burning, pitting, discoloration, and corrosion failures, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Train and develop operators and laboratory personnel on chemical handling, process controls, safety practices, and quality standards.
- Conduct periodic Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and ensure compliance with EHS regulations and safe chemical handling practices.
- Manage laboratory operations, including procurement of chemicals, consumables, testing equipment, and calibration activities.
- Verify inward chemical test reports, Certificates of Analysis (COA), and supplier quality documents before material approval.
- Monitor chemical consumption, optimize dosing, and implement initiatives to reduce chemical costs and process waste.
- Drive continuous improvement through CAPA, Poka-Yoke, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and Root Cause Analysis to improve process capability and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, environmental regulations, and wastewater treatment requirements.
- Prepare process performance reports, bath analysis records, quality trend analysis, and management MIS for review.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Purchase, and Process Engineering teams to ensure uninterrupted plating operations and on-time customer delivery.
Qualifications
- Industry experience: Hands-on experience in Zinc Plating, Nickel Plating, Passivation, Surface Treatment, Electroplating, and Automotive Component Manufacturing.
- Educational requirement: B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering / M.Sc. Chemistry.
- Required experience: 10 - 13 years.
