Role Summary The Senior IT Operations Lead will provide technical leadership and operational ownership of the organization's internal IT infrastructure and OT technology workplace supporting Data Center operations. This is a senior hands-on individual contributor role within a captive Data Center organization, responsible for the reliability, security, availability, governance, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of the organization's own technology environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. IT Infrastructure Operations & Reliability
- Provide technical and operational leadership for the organization's enterprise IT infrastructure supporting corporate and Data Center operations.
- Ensure the availability, reliability, performance, and security of infrastructure operating on a 24x7x365 basis.
- Oversee networking, servers and compute, virtualization, storage, backup, firewalls, security infrastructure, wireless, telephony, collaboration systems, end-user computing, and monitoring platforms.
- Drive proactive monitoring, capacity planning, performance optimization, technology lifecycle management, and operational KPI tracking.
2. OT Security & Data Center Technology Environment
- Support and govern IT and OT security procedures relevant to Data Center operations.
- Work closely with Data Center Operations, Engineering, Security, Automation, and Technology teams to ensure appropriate protection and segregation of IT and OT environments.
- Develop and maintain procedures for secure access, privileged access, remote connectivity, patching, vulnerability management, and system hardening.
- Support security assessments, audits, vulnerability remediation, risk mitigation, incident response, and root cause analysis involving IT and OT-related systems.
3. IT Service Management & Operational Governance
- Lead and continuously improve Incident, Problem, Change, Request, Configuration, and Asset Management processes.
- Analyse recurring incidents and operational trends and implement preventive and corrective actions.
- Drive service reviews, KPI reporting, risk tracking, root cause analysis, and continual service improvement.
4. Infrastructure Architecture & Technology Lifecycle
- Participate in infrastructure reviews and assess the impact of new systems, technology changes, and infrastructure enhancements.
- Provide recommendations for scalability, resilience, security, operational supportability, and risk mitigation.
- Support infrastructure modernization including cloud, hybrid infrastructure, software-defined networking, automation, and Infrastructure-as-a-Service models.
5. SDLC, Change & Release Governance
- Demonstrate strong awareness of SDLC and its impact on infrastructure and production environments.
- Work with application, automation, engineering, and technology teams to ensure infrastructure readiness for development, testing, deployment, and production releases.
- Ensure appropriate testing, documentation, rollback plans, approvals, risk assessments, and operational readiness before production implementation.
6. Information Security, Compliance & Documentation
- Support compliance with ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 requirements and maintain relevant operational documentation and evidence.
- Maintain infrastructure standards, procedures, architecture diagrams, Configuration Items (CIs), CMDB records, and IT asset documentation.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings and compliance actions.
7. Security, Monitoring & Critical Incident Management
- Provide technical oversight for routers, switches, Layer 2/3 networks, firewalls, IPS/IDS, VPN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and connectivity infrastructure.
- Improve monitoring coverage, alert quality, operational visibility, and proactive issue detection.
- Lead technical investigations for major incidents, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
8. Vendor & Internal Stakeholder Management
- Manage technical relationships and escalations with infrastructure, security, telecommunications, and technology vendors.
- Partner with internal Data Center Operations, Engineering, Information Security, Automation, Applications, Corporate IT, Facilities, and business stakeholders.
- Communicate technical risks, operational performance, improvement initiatives, and infrastructure status to senior stakeholders.
9. Individual Contributor Technical Leadership
- Act as a senior technical owner and subject matter expert, leading through technical expertise, governance, influence, and operational ownership.
- Work independently on complex technical and operational issues and mentor engineers where required.
- This is primarily a hands-on senior individual contributor role and is not intended to be a traditional service delivery, customer account management, or managed services role.
Qualification & Experience
15+ years of progressive experience in enterprise IT infrastructure,
infrastructure operations, or IT operations leadership.
- Experience supporting business-critical, highly available, 24x7x365 infrastructure environments.
- Strong experience operating internal enterprise or captive technology environments; experience should not be limited to external customer managed services delivery.
- Strong technical experience across enterprise networking, Layer 2/3 infrastructure, routers, switches, firewalls, WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi, servers, virtualization, monitoring, infrastructure security, backup, and configuration management.
- Strong experience in Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Root Cause Analysis, KPI reporting, trend analysis, and continual service improvement.
- Practical understanding of IT and OT security principles, access management, vulnerability remediation, patching, infrastructure hardening, and operational security procedures.
- Strong awareness of SDLC, production change governance, release management, testing, risk assessment, rollback planning, and operational readiness.
- Experience with monitoring platforms such as Zabbix, Nagios, SolarWinds, Cacti, or similar tools.
- Experience conducting infrastructure architecture reviews and developing mitigation plans for technical and operational risks.
- Strong vendor management, stakeholder management, analytical, problem-solving, documentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience working in a Data Center operator or other mission-critical infrastructure environment.
- Exposure to OT environments supporting critical infrastructure, including Data Center automation, BMS, DCIM, SCADA, or similar operational technologies.
- Knowledge of OT/ICS security principles and industrial cybersecurity practices.
- Experience with public cloud, hybrid cloud, software-defined networking, infrastructure automation, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, or DevSecOps practices.
- Experience with Zero Trust, SIEM, SOC, EDR, vulnerability management, or security monitoring platforms.
- Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
Preferred Certifications
- CCNP or equivalent Cisco certification.
- CISSP, CISM, or equivalent information security certification.
- ITIL certification.
- Microsoft infrastructure, cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), OT/ICS security, or Six Sigma/process improvement certifications.
