Position Title: Head - Export Import (EXIM) Location: Mumbai - Head Office (Kurla - Phoenix Market City)
- Graduate / Postgraduate in Commerce, International Trade, or Business Management (MBA preferred) with 12-15+ years of progressive experience in Export-Import operations, of which at least 4-5 years should be in a leadership role managing an EXIM/Trade Compliance team.
Key Competencies
- Expert-level command of Customs formalities, DGFT/FTP policy, ICEGATE, and other regulatory frameworks, with proven ability to set and govern the organization's EXIM compliance strategy
- Executive-level communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, including experience representing the organization with banks, government bodies, and senior leadership.
- In-depth expertise in Payment Terms, Incoterms, Trade Finance instruments (LC, BG), and Banking/AD procedures, with the ability to structure and approve terms for high-value transactions.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build a high-performing EXIM team, drive process improvement, and work independently at a strategic level with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, including budgeting, cost optimization, risk management, and MIS/dashboard reporting to senior leadership.
- Ability to represent the organization before senior Customs/DGFT officials, banking leadership, and industry bodies on EXIM policy matters.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and take end-to-end ownership of the organization's Import/Export/Shipping operations across all locations, setting policy and direction for engagement with transporters, freight forwarders, carriers, and CHAs.
- Oversee and govern the preparation and accuracy of all Import/Export documentation, and lead negotiation of LC and other trade finance documents for high-value transactions.
- Own the Import payments process end-to-end, driving coordination between locations and banking partners to ensure timely remittances, and resolving escalations.
- Drive the organization's forex receivables strategy, including senior-level follow-up with overseas buyers and escalation management for overdue collections.
- Oversee the accounts payable and receivable framework with freight forwarders and service providers, ensuring timely bill lodgment and accuracy across the accounting system.
- Serve as the organization's senior point of contact for Customs / DGFT / ICEGATE and other regulatory departments, shaping compliance strategy and managing key relationships.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across external partners and internal departments, and mentor the EXIM team on communication and coordination best practices.
- Own the overall EDPMS / IDPMS compliance position with the AD Bank, ensuring pendencies are closed within RBI-mandated timelines and escalating systemic issues to leadership.
- Drive the organization's strategy for maximizing export incentives, FTA, and other government benefits, ensuring timely claims and identifying current opportunities for savings
- Provide final sign-off and expert guidance on classification of goods, duty structures, and applicable taxes across the organization's product portfolio.
- Lead, hire, and develop the EXIM team, setting performance goals, driving capability building, and ensuring adequate coverage across all locations.
- Own internal and external audit readiness for EXIM operations, including implementing controls, closing audit observations, and reporting compliance status to senior management.
- Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, and senior leadership to align EXIM strategy with overall business objectives and cost-optimization goals.
