Position: Senior .Net Engineer/ Architect with VB.Net/SQL/API/ASP.Net
Location: Onsite in Cameron LA
Visa Status: Independent Consultant
Duration: 6+ Months (Will be a Long Term Contract or CTH)
PREFERRED TO WORK ON W2 OR 1099
:
Must have financial services experience
Summary:
We are hiring engineers who can figure out how complex systems actually work—not just build new ones. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable debugging a 15-year-old VB.NET WebForms application, analyzing a SQL Server execution plan, troubleshooting a reconciliation issue, and contributing to a modern .NET 8 API modernization effort.
Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Senior .NET Engineer who thrives in complex, established environments and can debug, understand, and evolve business-critical systems. You will work across a large enterprise retirement and financial platform that spans the full .NET timeline—from .NET Framework 2.0 SQL CLR and classic WebForms through modern .NET 8 and .NET Core services. The emphasis is on operating within existing systems—keeping them running, tracing problems to the root cause, and incrementally modernizing them—not building greenfield applications.
Success depends on strong debugging, data-tracing, and business-logic analysis: the ability to reverse-engineer systems with minimal documentation, form testable hypotheses under ambiguity, and balance modernization against business continuity.
Core Setting:
Visual Studio (2010–2022) and the full .NET stack—.NET Framework 2.0–4.8, .NET Core 3.1, .NET 5, and .NET 8—with both VB.NET and C#. Application surfaces span ASP.NET WebForms (ASPX), MVC, Web API, and ASP.NET Core REST APIs; ASMX and WCF (SOAP) services (BasicHttp, NetTcp, WsHttp); Windows Services; console applications; WinForms clients; and SQL Server CLR assemblies. Data access is SQL Server throughout—heavy stored procedures, ADO.NET,
and Enterprise Library—plus Oracle (via ODP.NET) backing the Relius platform.
Some areas use ORM technologies, but most core business logic remains data-layer and stored-procedure driven. IIS, MSBuild, and NuGet are used across the platform.
Enterprise Systems & Platforms
Frontend
- ASP.NET WebForms (largest application surface area)
- AngularJS 1.8, Knockout.js, jQuery, Bootstrap, Razor views
- Identity & Security
- Forms Authentication
- SAML2 SSO (ComponentSpace / ComponentPro)
- JWT Bearer Authentication
- IdentityServer4 / OpenID Connect
- Cloud & Infrastructure
- Azure VMs, App Services, and API Services
- Azure Functions
- SFTP integrations
Core Responsibilities:
- Debug complex production issues across UI, APIs, databases, batch jobs, and Windows Services.
- Trace and validate data flow end-to-end, often across multiple applications and services.
- Investigate incorrect financial results, balances, transactions, and reconciliation issues by tracing data across systems and identifying where expected versus actual behavior diverges.
- Maintain and enhance ASP.NET WebForms, MVC, and legacy .NET applications, plus SOAP, WCF, and REST service layers.
- Develop and optimize SQL Server stored procedures, queries, and SQL CLR code.
- Support batch processing, file-based integrations, and reconciliation workflows.
- Deliver fixes without disrupting critical business operations, collaborating with business and operations users to understand legacy behavior.
- Modernization & Forward-Looking Work
- Contribute to incremental modernization efforts (WebForms / SOAP ® ASP.NET Core REST APIs).
- Build and extend .NET Core and .NET 8 services, including identity components (IdentityServer4 / OpenID Connect) and secure API patterns (JWT, SAML2).
- Improve observability using Serilog, log4net, ELMAH, and structured logging.
- Support API discoverability and documentation through Swagger and NSwag.
Required Skills:
- Strong experience with C#, VB.NET, and the .NET Framework.
- Deep SQL Server expertise including stored procedures, execution plans, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
- Experience working with Oracle and ODP.NET, or the ability to quickly become effective within Oracle-backed enterprise platforms such as Relius.
- Strong experience with WebForms and/or legacy ASP.NET systems; MVC / Web API preferred.
- Experience with SOAP, WCF, and REST services.
- Hands-on Azure experience, including VMs, App Services, and API Services.
- Strong debugging skills across multi-layer and multi-service systems.
- Experience with batch jobs, file-based integrations, and scheduled processing workloads.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Relius and retirement-plan administration platforms.
- .NET Core / 5 / 8 and ASP.NET Core.
- Reporting technologies such as Crystal Reports, SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise (BOE), or SSRS.
- Azure Functions and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Financial and industry integrations including ACORD / TXLife, DocuSign, Yodlee, RPAG, Sertifi, IDology, TSYS, and Xignite.
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate understanding of legacy code, stored procedures, integrations, and business workflows while maintaining strong validation discipline.
- CI/CD pipeline implementation and release automation.
