DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS, INTERNATIONAL AMI

Location -Noida

Experience -10+ Years

Employment Full-time, permanent

Mandate split

~40% customer-facing (pre-sale technical, discovery, demo, PoC)

~40% product-facing (market requirements to product management team)

~20% market intelligence & technology landscape

What This Role Is Not

This role is not a post-sale deployment engineer. Once a contract is signed and hardware is shipped, delivery coordination moves to the Regional Delivery Manager.

This role is not a pure pre-sales role with a quota. You are measured on the quality of technical pipeline built and the quality of product requirements delivered back to product management team.

This role is not a product owner. You surface requirements; the product leadership team makes the call.

What We Are Looking For

Essential

- 8–12 years of technical experience in smart metering, AMI, or energy technology — either at a meter OEM, system integrator, or utility/metering coordinator on the buyer side
- Deep working knowledge of at least one major certification or technical framework in smart metering— not theoretical familiarity but hands-on experience with what the process actually requires
- Fluency in the technical language of AMI: DLMS/COSEM, HES/MDMS architecture, communications protocols (RF mesh, NB-IoT, PLC, LTE-M), meter accuracy classes, power quality measurement
- Cyber awareness — you understand secure communications in AMI, firmware integrity, key management, and at least one regulatory cybersecurity framework relevant to critical infrastructure or smart metering. You can hold a credible conversation with a utility's security team
- Ability to run a technical discovery conversation with a utility engineer— understand their architecture, identify gaps, and propose a technically credible solution
- Ability to write a technical requirements document that a product owner can work on
- Comfortable operating across cultures and time zones— the product management team is in India/SG, customers are across APAC and Europe
- Strong written and verbal communication — you translate between two technical worlds and both sides need to trust your accuracy

Highly Desirable

- Experience with national type approval processes for smart meters— having been through a certification filing, even as a second engineer on the project
- Familiarity with SMETS2specification and DCC connectivity
- Experience with edge intelligence on embedded software platforms (e.g. Zephyr)
- Hands-on experience with cybersecurity in critical infrastructure or smart metering— secure OTA, PKI, certificate lifecycle management, regulatory audit preparation
- Knowledge of HES/MDMS integration
- Exposure to ADB/World Bank-funded AMI procurement — understanding of procurement compliance requirements for development-bank-funded tenders

- Mandarin or Bahasa useful but not required

The Role This role has a dual mandate. You are the person who determines whether product can actually win in a specific market — and then ensures the product management teams receive explicit, actionable change requests so they know exactly what needs to evolve.

Customer-facing(40% of the role)

- Run technical discovery with utility engineers, metering coordinators, and technical procurement leads

— understand their needs for HES architecture, DLMS/COSEM requirements, communications network, billing data flows, and certification constraints
- Build the technical case for value proposition — translate KEI™,KMesh™ into language that a utility engineer or technical head understands and trusts
- Own the technical pre-sale process: architecture workshops, reference calls, proof-of-concept scoping, demo execution
- Support RFP and tender responses on technical sections— accuracy class, communication protocol, cybersecurity posture, data format compliance by working with the product management team
- Hold credible conversations with utility CISOs and security teams on AMI cybersecurity requirements
- Build credibility with technical stakeholders — you are the reason a utility trusts product before the first meter is shipped
- Travel across international markets for key technical engagements — this is not a desk role
- Events and thought leadership
- Represent at technical industry forums, standards working groups, and utility engineering events as the company's subject matter expert — contributing peer-to- peer to the technical conversation, not leading with a commercial agenda. This includes regulatory working groups, metering and grid-edge conferences, and customer-hosted technical workshops.

Product-facing(40% of the role)

- Be translation layer between international markets and the product management teams in India/Singapore, capturing differing voltage profiles, data formats, cybersecurity obligations, and DER environments
- Identify certification and regulatory cybersecurity requirements for each target market and feed them into the Market Requirements Document (MRD)
- Deliver structured, prioritized Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) to the CPO and CTO – specific and actionable
- Participate in certification reviews and flag technical blockers before they become commercial risks
- Inform pricing and commercial decisions where current specifications fall short of market technical complexity

Market intelligence and technology landscape(20%)

- Engage the market, track the technology landscape relevant to markets— where the market is heading. This includes: emerging standards and regulatory changes (new accuracy class requirements, updated cybersecurity mandates, DER integration rules) before they become public procurement criteria; competitor product developments; adjacent technologies gaining traction(BESS sub-metering, EV charging infrastructure metering, data centre power monitoring); and shifts in utility procurement behaviour (what is moving from CAPEX to OPEX models, what financing structures are gaining traction via ADB/World Bank/JICA).
- Maintain a working view of TAM and SAM for product categories in each active market — not a financial model but a living sense of the addressable opportunity, how it is shifting (new mandates, new utility procurement cycles, competitor wins and losses), and where is under- or over- indexed relative to the opportunity. Flag material changes to the International President as they emerge rather than waiting for a quarterly review cycle

Technical Context You need to understand — or be able to quickly learn — the technical requirements of the markets is entering across APAC and Europe:

- AMI standards: DLMS/COSEM protocol stack, IEC 62052/62053 accuracy classes, NEM12/NEM13 data formats, OBIS codes, HES/MDMS integration architecture
- Communications: RF mesh, NB-IoT, LTE-M, PLC — how each performs in different grid environments and what utilities prefer
- Certification frameworks: National type approval processes, EU MID/CE marking, SMETS2 specification — at least one in depth, others at working knowledge level
- Edge intelligence: Software-defined meter platforms, OTA firmware update architecture, edge application deployment — specifically relevant to EI
- Cybersecurity: Secure communications in AMI (DLMS/COSEM encryption, TLS, certificate management, secure boot, OTA signing, key management), regulatory frameworks (SOCI Act, NIS2, NIST CSF, BSI SMGW security requirements), responding to utility CISO questionnaires, understanding data sovereignty and localization requirements
- DER environment: How high solar penetration, VPPs, dynamic tariffs, and BESS integration change what a utility needs from its metering infrastructure

The Person

- You are genuinely technical and comfortable reading a DLMS/COSEM standard document or a cybersecurity framework, not just talking about them in abstract terms
- Communicate across personas— from ‘C’ level to the operator
- Commercially aware — able to translate technical solution to what will sell
- Structured thinker — your product feedback is specific, documented, and prioritized.
- Comfortable with ambiguity— you are joining a 0-to-1 international build.
- Comfortable to be boundaryless
