- Set up and operate hemodialysis machines to provide dialysis treatment for patients with kidney failure.
- Attach the dialyzer and tubing to the machine and assemble the equipment for use.
- Mix dialysate according to the prescribed formula.
- Prime the dialyzer with saline or heparinized solution to prepare the machine for treatment.
- Shift patients to the dialysis room and position them appropriately on the dialysis chair.
- Take and record the patient's pre-dialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate.
- Explain the dialysis procedure and operation of the hemodialysis machine to patients to reduce anxiety.
- Clean the vascular access area using an appropriate antiseptic solution.
- Connect the hemodialysis machine to the patient's forearm access or catheter site to initiate blood circulation through the dialyzer.
- Inspect equipment settings, including pressure, conductivity, and temperature, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Start the blood flow pump at the prescribed rate.
- Monitor venous and arterial pressures displayed on the equipment and ensure they remain within established limits.
- Calculate the required fluid removal or replacement during the dialysis procedure.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and observe the hemodialysis machine for any malfunction.
- Take and record the patient's post-dialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate.
- Assist with the fabrication or preparation of components such as cannulas, tubing, catheters, connectors, and fittings using appropriate hand tools when required.
