Job Role
Mason
- Perform masonry and civil maintenance works including kerb stone maintenance, road patching, pothole repairs, wall repairs, brickwork, and plastering.
- Inspect work areas and identify cracks, damage, displacement, potholes, and other defects.
- Execute repair and maintenance activities according to project specifications and quality standards.
- Ensure proper alignment, levels, bonding, mortar application, surface finish, curing, and durability.
- Carry out waterproof plastering for drain walls and sewer chambers to prevent leakage and erosion.
- Coordinate with site engineers and supervisors for daily work allocation and site requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Kerb Stone Maintenance
- Inspect kerb stones for cracks, displacement, or damage.
- Remove and replace broken or misaligned kerb stones.
- Re-set kerb stones with proper alignment and level.
- Fill joints with mortar or sealant to prevent water ingress.
- Ensure uniform finish and clean edges.
Road Patch Work
- Identify potholes, cracks, and damaged road sections.
- Cut and remove deteriorated materials.
- Prepare and compact the base properly.
- Apply concrete or asphalt patching material as per specifications.
- Level and finish the surface to match the existing road profile.
- Cure and check durability before opening the area to traffic.
Shop Floor Pothole Repairs
- Inspect shop floors for potholes and surface damage.
- Cut and clean damaged sections.
- Fill damaged areas with the appropriate concrete mix.
- Level and smooth the surface for secure movement.
- Ensure proper curing and surface hardness.
Wall Crack And Damage Repairs
- Identify cracks, holes, and damaged wall sections.
- Cut and clean affected areas.
- Apply mortar or plaster to fill gaps.
- Rebuild brickwork where structural damage is present.
- Complete plastering and painting when specified.
Brick Work
- Construct or repair walls, partitions, and structures using specified bricks.
- Maintain proper alignment, bonding, and mortar application.
- Ensure walls are plumb and level with uniform joints.
- Cure brickwork properly for strength and durability.
Concrete Drain Wall Plastering
- Clean and prepare drain wall surfaces.
- Apply cement plaster to protect against erosion and leakage.
- Maintain proper plaster thickness and a smooth finish.
- Cure plaster properly to prevent cracks.
Sewer Chamber Plastering
- Inspect sewer chambers for cracks or damage.
- Clean and prepare internal surfaces.
- Apply waterproof cement plaster to chamber walls.
- Ensure smooth finishing and leak-proof sealing.
- Cure plaster properly for durability.
General Responsibilities
Site Preparation & Safety:
- Keep the work area clean, safe, and properly barricaded.
- Follow all required safety protocols and use PPE such as helmets, gloves, and safety boots.
- Protect surrounding structures, utilities, and finished surfaces during work.
Material Handling
- Verify the quality of cement, sand, bricks, kerb stones,
aggregates, and other materials before use.
- Store materials properly to prevent damage or contamination.
- Mix mortar and concrete in the correct proportions as per specifications.
Work Execution
- Carry out kerb stone fixing, road patching, pothole repairs, wall crack filling, brickwork, plastering, and chamber finishing.
- Maintain proper alignment, level, thickness, and surface finish.
- Ensure waterproofing and durability of sewer chambers and drain plastering.
Quality Assurance
- Follow project specifications and relevant IS codes/standards.
- Check alignment, thickness, curing, and surface finish.
- Rectify defects immediately to maintain workmanship quality.
Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with site engineers and supervisors for daily work allocation.
- Report work progress, challenges, and material requirements promptly.
- Maintain records of completed work sections for inspection.
Helpdesk Closure Process
- Raise all masonry tasks, including kerb stone work, patch work, wall repairs, brickwork, plastering, and chamber finishing, in the helpdesk system.
- Provide a clear description and unique ticket ID for each task.
- Update assigned helpdesk tickets with progress notes, such as “Kerb stone replaced” or “Wall crack plastered.”
- Supervisor must inspect completed work for quality, alignment, durability, and site cleanliness.
- Close the helpdesk ticket after successful verification.
- Record completion remarks, date/time of completion, and supervisor sign-off.
- Log and close preventive maintenance tasks for proper accountability.
