Travel: Across India, and sometimes abroad The Civilian Volumes is managing applications for a Cinematographer opening with Build Right Now. The role and day-to-day work are with Build Right Now.

Build Right Now is a media studio creating original video content with public figures, political leaders, startup founders and other high-visibility personalities.

The work is mostly short-form social video: reels, shorts, interviews, public-event coverage, founder-led content and political/public-figure shoots. There will also be some longer-format work, including interviews and short films.

This role is part cinematographer, part video journalist.

A lot of the work happens in busy, crowded and unpredictable real-world environments. You need to move fast, stay alert, and still return with footage that is steady, well-framed, properly exposed and clean on sound.

Most days, you will be the only camera person on the ground. You will shoot the footage and handle location sound. A separate editor will take it from there.

What you’ll do

- Shoot video on a DSLR or mirrorless camera.
- Handle framing, exposure, focus and camera movement independently.
- Work in run-and-gun situations, often in crowded or unpredictable locations.
- Capture clean location sound using lav mics, backups and proper audio levels.
- Use available light well and expose faces correctly, even in difficult lighting.
- Capture enough coverage for the editor: wides, close-ups, cutaways, reactions, details and context shots.
- Know when to start rolling without always being told.
- Stay ready before key moments happen.
- Keep footage organised, backed up, labelled and ready for handover.
- Travel for shoots when required, sometimes at short notice.
- Work around well-known people,



private moments and sensitive environments with discretion.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with a good eye, steady hands and the stamina to shoot in real-world conditions.

You may be a visual communication, film or mass communication graduate, or completely self-taught. We care more about the footage you can shoot than your marks or formal qualifications.

You should have

- A reel, portfolio, Instagram page, YouTube/Vimeo link or Drive folder with real work we can watch.
- A good sense of framing, light, timing and when to catch the moment.
- Some experience with location sound, or the willingness to learn it quickly.
- Comfort shooting in busy, crowded, fast-moving environments.
- Reliability, discipline and the ability to stay reachable.
- Comfort with long days on your feet.
- Comfort communicating in Kannada and English.
- A passport, or willingness to get one.
- Ideally, your own camera and audio kit.

Bonus if you also have:

- Still-photography skills.
- Some Hindi, especially for travel outside Karnataka.
