Position Summary
Symbiosis is seeking an accomplished Chief – Projects to provide strategic and operational leadership for the planning, execution, monitoring, and delivery of major civil construction and infrastructure projects across its campuses and institutional facilities.
The incumbent will be responsible for leading large-scale projects from concept planning and design coordination through execution, commissioning, and handover, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, quality, safety, statutory requirements, and institutional standards.
The position requires a senior skilled with demonstrated leadership experience in large-scale construction/project management, preferably in educational institutions, large campuses, corporate infrastructure, real estate, healthcare, government, or other complex multi-project environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership & Execution
- Provide overall leadership for multiple civil construction and infrastructure projects.
- Drive projects from planning, design, tendering, execution, commissioning and handover.
- Establish project objectives, milestones, execution strategies and delivery timelines.
- Monitor project progress and take corrective action to ensure timely completion.
- Lead construction activities for buildings, academic blocks, hostels, residential facilities, sports infrastructure, utilities and other institutional projects.
2. Strategic Project Planning
- Develop long-term infrastructure and capital project plans aligned with organizational objectives.
- Evaluate project feasibility, cost implications, resource requirements and execution methodologies.
- Prepare project budgets, schedules, cash-flow requirements and resource plans.
- Advise senior management on project risks, opportunities and investment decisions.
3. Construction Management
- Oversee civil, structural and associated MEP/construction activities.
- Ensure effective coordination among architects, structural consultants, PMC, contractors, vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Review drawings, BOQs, specifications, construction methodologies and technical proposals.
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved designs, specifications and quality standards.
4. Contract & Contractor Management
- Lead selection, appointment and performance management of contractors, consultants and project management agencies.
- Review tender documents, BOQs, technical specifications and commercial proposals.
- Monitor contractor performance, contractual obligations, variations, claims and extensions of time.
- Ensure effective contract administration and cost control.
5. Cost, Quality & Timeline Management
- Ensure projects are delivered within approved cost, quality and schedule parameters.
- Establish project monitoring mechanisms and management dashboards.
- Identify delays,
cost overruns and execution risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure robust quality assurance and quality control processes throughout construction.
6. Stakeholder & Leadership Management
- Act as the senior-most Projects representative and key point of contact for institutional leadership.
- Present project status, financial updates, risks and critical decisions to senior management.
- Coordinate with internal departments including Administration, Finance, Procurement, Legal, Security and Academic/Institute leadership.
- Lead and mentor the Projects/Engineering team and build a high-performance project management function.
7. Statutory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, development regulations, statutory approvals, environmental requirements, fire and safety norms and other applicable regulations.
- Coordinate with government/statutory authorities and external agencies wherever required.
- Ensure proper documentation, approvals, testing, commissioning and project handover.
8. Safety & Sustainability
- Establish and enforce high standards of construction safety across all project sites.
- Ensure contractors and consultants comply with institutional EHS requirements.
- Promote sustainable construction practices, energy efficiency and environmentally responsible infrastructure development.
Required Experience
- 20–25 years of overall professional experience in Civil Construction / Infrastructure / Project Management.
- Strong and demonstrable experience in large-scale civil construction project execution.
