Purpose

Support the Senior Advisers in delivering accounts and tax services, taking semi-independent responsibility for client analysis, technical summaries and proposal preparation. The role is a development position with a clear route to Senior Adviser.

Key responsibilities

- Support Senior Advisers in delivering accounts and tax services across personal tax, business and corporate tax, indirect tax, statutory accounts, and company and group structures, in line with the legislation applicable to the matter.
- Support the handling of inbound client calls and enquiry taking during the initial learning phase of the role, to gain exposure to the full client-facing process.
- Review and analyse client financial, accounting and tax information, identifying the relevant issues and risks, and preparing technical summaries to support advisory discussions and recommendations.
- Research technical points from primary sources - legislation and revenue authority guidance - and set out findings clearly for Senior Adviser review.
- Liaise directly with clients to obtain information, clarify queries and support ongoing engagements in a clear and professional manner.
- Assist in the preparation of accounts, computations, reports and supporting documentation.
- Prepare tailored service proposals and scope of work based on client requirements and agreed outcomes, for Senior Adviser review before issue.
- Coordinate with the tax, accounts and compliance teams to ensure advice is consistent, practical and accurately implemented.
- Maintain complete and current CRM and file records on all matters handled, updated the same working day.
- Maintain and develop technical knowledge across accounts preparation, income and personal taxation, corporate taxation, capital taxes and indirect taxation, through ongoing study and practical experience.




- Apply professional judgement and ethical standards to the standard expected of a recognised skilled accountancy or tax body, escalating technical or risk matters appropriately.
- Demonstrate progression towards increased responsibility, with a view to developing into a senior advisory role.

Essential

Technical background

- A general accounts and tax background, gained in practice, in industry, or in a comparable delivery role, in any jurisdiction. Formal qualification is not compulsory. Qualified, part-qualified and qualified-by-experience candidates are all considered - ACCA, ACA, CA, CPA, CTA, ATT, CIMA, AAT, an equivalent qualification from any jurisdiction, or none - provided the underlying technical ability is demonstrable.
- Working knowledge of accounts preparation and of personal and business tax computations, in any regime, with the willingness and ability to convert to the rules that apply to the firm's clients.
- Able to produce a technical summary a senior colleague can act on without rework.
- Sound numeracy, and accuracy under review.

Communication

- Excellent spoken and written English, sufficient for direct client correspondence without a template to follow.
- Confident and professional on the telephone and on video calls.
- Able to explain what has been done, and what remains outstanding, in plain English.
- Asks clear, well-framed questions of clients and of senior colleagues.

Working style

- Accurate and disciplined with records.
- Organised across several live matters at once.

Desirable

- Exposure to accounts and taxation job.
- Indirect tax and bookkeeping experience, and familiarity with Xero, QuickBooks, Sage etc.
- Active progress towards a professional qualification.
