Role Overview

India Autism Center (IAC) is developing a white paper on accessible and autism-inclusive architecture, covering sensory-friendly acoustics, lighting, wayfinding, materials, and other design principles. The white paper will bring together research, expert perspectives, and case studies from India and abroad.

The Architecture Intern will support the project from research and expert engagement through drafting, review, and publication, working closely with a supervising editor/senior architect.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Case Studies

Conduct literature reviews on accessible, universal, sensory-inclusive, and autism-friendly design.

Research Indian and international standards, including the Harmonised Guidelines and Standards for Universal Accessibility 2021.

Identify, research, and document three case studies, including IAC's own centre.

Synthesise research and case-study findings into clear, cited content.

Expert Engagement

Coordinate and conduct approximately nine interviews with architects, therapists, families, and accessibility experts.

Prepare interview questions and document key insights from interviews.

Coordinate with external expert reviewers and manage feedback and follow-ups.

Writing & Publication





Draft the complete 6,000–8,000-word white paper across multiple sections.

Integrate research, case studies, interviews, and expert inputs into a cohesive publication.

Create or coordinate original diagrams and visual content.

Support editing, proofreading, layout, and preparation of print- and web-ready versions.

Support launch outreach to architecture journals, firms, professional networks, and media.

Key Outcomes A completed 6,000–8,000-word, publication-ready white paper on accessible and autism-inclusive architecture.

Three documented case studies and approximately nine expert/stakeholder interviews incorporated into the paper.

A final publication incorporating research, expert review, visuals, editing, and production.

Support for the successful launch and dissemination of the white paper.

Must-Have Requirements

Completed a degree in Architecture or a closely related field.

Strong written communication and research skills, with the ability to produce structured, cited long-form content.

Strong organisation and ability to independently manage deadlines, interviews, and multiple stakeholders.

Comfortable communicating professionally with external experts and conducting interviews.

Willingness to work on-site in Kolkata,



West Bengal for the internship duration.

Genuine interest in accessibility, inclusive design, autism, disability, or related areas.

Preferred Skills

Academic, thesis, or project experience in inclusive, universal, accessible, therapeutic, or healthcare design.

Experience with interviews, literature reviews, qualitative research, or case studies.

Familiarity with architectural documentation and design tools.

Basic proficiency in InDesign, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Word, or Google Docs.

Experience writing research papers, articles, reports, or other long-form content.

Growth Opportunity The intern will gain end-to-end experience in a real research-to-publication project, including literature review, architectural case-study research, expert interviews, writing, editorial review, and publication development.

The successful intern will receive mentorship from the supervising editor/senior architect and may receive a letter of recommendation and certificate of completion upon successful delivery.
