Job Title: Technician / Supervisor - ST (Signal Telecommunication) Department: Signal Telecommunication (ST) Location: Site-based Reporting To: Senior Engineer / Assistant Engineer (ST) Job Summary:
The Technician/Supervisor - ST is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of all signalling and telecommunication equipment. The role ensures safe and uninterrupted train operations by maintaining the reliability and functionality of ST systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and maintenance of railway signalling systems including point machines, relays, axle counters, interlocking systems, and track circuits.
Maintenance and troubleshooting of telecommunication systems such as optical fiber cables, control communication, emergency communication, data loggers, and PA systems.
Inspection of signaling and telecom equipment in accordance with maintenance schedules and technical standards.
Supervising and coordinating the work of technicians/labour teams during field operations.
Ensuring all work is performed in compliance with RDSO, OEM standards, and Railway safety norms.
Preparation of maintenance logs, fault records, inspection reports, and daily progress reports.
Assisting in testing and commissioning of recent or upgraded ST systems.
Coordinating with operations, electrical, and track departments during integrated maintenance and block periods.
Ensuring timely replacement of worn-out components to minimize downtime and ensure train safety.
Reporting any irregularities or failures promptly and taking corrective action as per guidelines.
Qualifications:
Essential: ITI / Diploma in Electronics / Electrical / Telecommunication / Instrumentation Engineering.
Preferred: Apprentice or prior experience with Indian Railways / RITES / RVNL / Rail PSU / Private Railway Infra Projects.
Experience:
Technician: 1-3 years of hands-on experience in ST works.
Supervisor: 3-6 years of experience, including supervisory responsibilities in ST maintenance or project execution.
Key Skills:
Knowledge of Railway Signalling Principles (Panel/Route/Relay/Electronic Interlocking).
Familiarity with telecom systems including OFC laying, splicing, and network management.
Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of RDSO specifications and Railway safety standards.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
Basic knowledge of computers and documentation tools.
Work Conditions:
Field-based role; frequent travel and night shifts during blocks.
Exposure to outdoor environments, construction sites, and live railway operations.
