We are looking for a Senior Technical Lead / Architect to own the architecture, performance, and scalability of our Spotfire analytics platform used across clinical programs. This is not a dashboard/visualization-building role — our clinical programmers own that layer. Instead, this person will design, harden, and continuously optimize the underlying data and platform foundation that clinical programmers build their visualizations on top of.

The current Spotfire architecture has significant technical debt and performance issues. The immediate mandate is to assess the existing setup, diagnose root causes, and design and execute a revamp plan — with minimal disruption to ongoing clinical programming work.

Key Responsibilities:

- Own end-to-end architecture of the Spotfire platform, including its integration with Databricks (primary persistent data layer) and PostgreSQL (transactional data store)
- Audit the current Spotfire environment — data connections, information links, data models, load strategies, server configuration — and identify root causes of poor performance and scalability
- Design and drive execution of a revamp/re-architecture plan, balancing quick wins with long-term structural fixes
- Define best practices, patterns, and reusable frameworks for performant Spotfire visualizations,



and enable clinical programmers to build on top of a stable, well-architected foundation
- Architect and optimize data pipelines and query patterns between Databricks, PostgreSQL, and Spotfire (in-database vs. in-memory analysis, data connection modes, caching strategies, incremental refresh, etc.)
- Own Spotfire server-side architecture: library structure, automation services, load balancing, sizing, and governance
- Partner closely with clinical programmers to understand visualization/data needs and translate them into scalable backend design — without owning the visualizations themselves
- Establish monitoring, performance benchmarks, and troubleshooting playbooks for ongoing platform health
- Mentor team members on Spotfire architecture and Databricks/PostgreSQL integration best practices

Required Qualifications

- 8+ years of experience with Spotfire, with deep expertise in its architecture (Analyst, Server, Automation Services, Web Player) — not just report/visualization building
- Proven, hands-on experience integrating Spotfire with Databricks, including in-database analytics, data connections, and performance tuning at scale
- Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL for transactional data,



including schema design and query performance
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing and resolving performance and scalability issues in BI platforms (large data volumes, complex data models, concurrent users)
- Strong understanding of data modeling for analytics — information links, data on-demand, in-memory vs. in-database trade-offs
- Experience leading architecture assessments and revamp/migration initiatives, not just greenfield builds
- Fast learner, comfortable stepping into a messy/undocumented existing environment and quickly forming an informed point of view
- Excellent communication skills — able to work directly with clinical programmers, data engineers, and stakeholders to align technical direction

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in clinical/life sciences/pharma data environments (understanding of clinical programming workflows is a strong plus)
- Familiarity with Databricks performance tuning (cluster sizing, Delta Lake optimization, partitioning strategies)
- Experience with CI/CD or DevOps practices applied to BI platform deployments
- Prior experience in a technical lead/architect role guiding a team of BI developers or analysts
