Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Shift Superintendent to lead shift operations and ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant in accordance with approved SOPs, operating procedures, safety standards and organizational guidelines.

The role will be responsible for shift handover/takeover, monitoring critical plant parameters, coordinating Operations and Maintenance activities, ensuring production and quality requirements, managing emergencies, leading troubleshooting, supporting audits and turnarounds, and ensuring effective execution of plant start-up and shutdown activities.

The incumbent will also play a key role in pre-commissioning, commissioning and plant stabilization, working closely with Construction, Projects, Engineering, Maintenance and Technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Shift Operations & Plant Management

- Lead the safe and efficient operation of the plant during the assigned shift in accordance with SOPs, operating guidelines and organizational standards.
- Ensure effective shift handover and takeover with complete communication of plant status, critical parameters, ongoing jobs, equipment availability, safety observations and operational issues.
- Monitor critical process and equipment parameters and ensure timely corrective action for deviations.
- Provide operational guidance and support to Shift Field Engineers, Panel Officers, Field Operators and Maintenance teams.
- Ensure all planned Operations and Maintenance activities are executed safely and as per the approved plan.
- Participate in daily, weekly and monthly planning of operational and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance and CTS/Technical teams for day-to-day troubleshooting, operational planning and resolution of plant issues.
- Participate in daily plant performance reviews and plant rack-up meetings, covering operational parameters, safety observations, production performance and troubleshooting requirements.
- Ensure operating discipline and adherence to approved plant procedures across the shift.

1. Production & Quality Management

- Monitor and calculate shift and daily production, including preparation and submission of daily production reports.
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining safe and stable plant operation.
- Monitor raw material consumption and ensure accurate recording of production-related data.
- Ensure product and raw material quality is maintained as per defined specifications.
- Identify quality deviations/non-conformances and coordinate with Quality, Operations and Technical teams for timely corrective actions.
- Review production losses, operational deviations and process constraints and recommend improvement actions.
- Ensure production and raw material consumption data are accurately updated in SAP.

1. Maintenance & Work Coordination

- Coordinate with Maintenance teams to ensure planned and breakdown maintenance activities are completed safely and within the required timelines.
- Review planned jobs and provide operational inputs for daily, weekly and monthly maintenance planning.
- Ensure appropriate plant conditions are established before maintenance activities are undertaken.
- Coordinate equipment isolation, availability and restoration with Operations and Maintenance teams.




- Monitor progress of critical maintenance activities and ensure operational requirements are addressed promptly.
- Support troubleshooting of equipment and process-related issues in coordination with Maintenance and Technical teams.

1. Safety, Permit & Risk Management

- Ensure all maintenance and operational activities are carried out in compliance with established safety procedures and work practices.
- Ensure appropriate Permit to Work (PTW) procedures are followed for all applicable jobs.
- Authorize permits within the defined level of authority and ensure required isolations and safety controls are in place.
- Participate in and review HITRA / Task-Based Risk Assessments for operational and maintenance activities.
- Ensure identified risks and control measures are communicated effectively to shift personnel.
- Participate in emergency drills, MOC-related activities and safety exercises.
- Ensure compliance with applicable organizational safety rules and operating procedures.
- Maintain high standards of operational discipline and safety within the shift.

1. Emergency Management

- Act as the Emergency Leader during plant emergencies as per the established emergency response structure.
- Lead and coordinate the shift team during abnormal and emergency operating situations.
- Ensure emergency procedures are followed and appropriate escalation and communication protocols are maintained.
- Ensure shift personnel are familiar with emergency procedures and competent to respond to abnormal operating conditions.
- Participate in emergency drills and identify opportunities for improving emergency preparedness.
- Coordinate with relevant internal teams and emergency response personnel during critical situations.

1. Troubleshooting & Operational Excellence

- Lead troubleshooting and analysis of process, equipment and operational issues during the shift.
- Identify recurring operational problems and coordinate with Technical, Maintenance and Engineering teams for root-cause identification and corrective actions.
- Participate in Reliability and Integrity studies and support implementation of identified recommendations.
- Analyse plant operating trends and critical parameters to identify potential risks and improvement opportunities.
- Promote stable, efficient and reliable plant operation through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Share lessons learned and best practices across shifts.

1. Shutdown & Turnaround Management

- Participate in planning and coordination of plant shutdowns and turnarounds.
- Provide operational inputs for shutdown scope, sequencing, isolation requirements and job execution planning.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and other functions during shutdown execution.
- Ensure secure preparation of the plant for shutdown and timely restoration following completion of maintenance activities.
- Support plant start-up following shutdowns and ensure operating parameters are stabilized safely.
- Monitor critical activities during shutdown/start-up and escalate operational risks or deviations promptly.

1. Audits, Compliance & Governance





- Participate in internal, external and statutory audits relevant to plant operations.
- Ensure compliance with audit requirements and support timely closure of observations and non-conformances.
- Participate in audits such as SSAC, IMS, Housekeeping, CFA and other applicable plant audits.
- Ensure operating procedures, records and documentation are maintained as required.
- Support implementation of organizational rules, procedures and governance practices within the shift.
- Ensure Reliance rules, operating standards and procedures are consistently implemented in day-to-day plant operations.

1. SOP Development & Operational Documentation

- Develop, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new and modified tasks.
- Ensure operating procedures accurately reflect actual plant conditions and approved operating practices.
- Coordinate with Technical/Engineering teams for validation of SOPs where required.
- Ensure shift personnel understand and comply with applicable SOPs.
- Ensure CAS compliance and competency of shift personnel for applicable operating procedures and tasks.
- Maintain appropriate operational records, shift logs and handover documentation.

Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning & Plant Stabilization
1. Project & Commissioning Activities

- Take responsibility for operational activities associated with process pre-commissioning and commissioning and support transition of the plant to stable/steady-state operation.
- Support the Construction team during piping mechanical clearance, equipment erection and readiness activities.
- Verify operational readiness of systems and equipment prior to pre-commissioning and commissioning.
- Support the Operations team during commissioning, start-up and stabilization activities.
- Develop and validate SOPs required for pre-commissioning, commissioning and normal plant operation.
- Ensure all shift personnel are competent and trained on applicable commissioning and operating procedures.
- Ensure CAS compliance and implementation of organizational operating standards across the shift.
- Participate in instrument and electrical loop checking activities.
- Participate in logic checking and functional verification of plant systems.
- Participate in Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) and provide operational inputs.
- Participate in Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR) and ensure identified actions are appropriately closed.
- Ensure applicable statutory and safety compliance requirements are completed before commissioning and start-up.
- Coordinate with Construction, Projects, Engineering, Maintenance, Instrumentation and Electrical teams to resolve commissioning-related issues.
- Monitor plant performance during ramp-up and identify operational constraints impacting achievement of steady-state conditions.

1. Team Leadership & Competency

- Provide day-to-day leadership and operational guidance to shift personnel.
- Ensure adequate competency of panel and field operating staff for normal, abnormal and emergency operating conditions.
- Identify competency gaps and coordinate appropriate training and development.
- Coach team members on troubleshooting, safe operating practices and adherence to SOPs.
- Promote effective communication and knowledge sharing across shifts.
- Build operational capability within the team to support higher levels of responsibility.
