Job Summary

The Senior Software Engineer (Sr. Application Engineer) develops and delivers high-quality software solutions using Java and modern web technologies to support ERP and enterprise systems at HCA Healthcare. This role partners with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and maintainable applications aligned with enterprise standards.

The Engineer coordinates with a larger team of development resources to enforce processes and review output to ensure predictability and quality of deliverables. The candidate should have a strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software engineering principles, and experience designing and developing end-to-end enterprise solutions in an Agile/Lean development environment.

This role provides key problem resolution for production systems and contributes to continuous improvement in development practices. The Engineer develops robust relationships across ITG and business teams,



strategically designing and implementing solutions that meet enterprise needs. The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter committed to delivering high-quality solutions within agreed timelines.

Responsibilities

Develop and participate with other teams on project/product releases

Actively participate in complex design and development assignments

Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable enterprise software solutions

Thoroughly understand assigned applications and system architecture

Conduct research to evaluate and adopt new technologies where appropriate

Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, and stakeholders on requirements

Write technical specifications and maintain detailed documentation

Accurately estimate assigned project tasks

Develop software in alignment with HCA standards and best practices

Direct and enforce quality measures for deliverables

Support and maintain production systems; participate in troubleshooting activities

Lead or contribute to root cause analysis and issue resolution

Build strong relationships within the department and across the organization

Oversee and participate in day-to-day support and maintenance activities





Work on assignments involving a variety of technologies (legacy and modern)

Mentor and guide other engineers on applications, architecture, and best practices

Participate in continuous improvement of development processes and tools

Work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Direct the performance of simple to moderately complex programming assignments

Skills, Abilities, and Behaviors:

Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills Required

Proficiency with Java Required

Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software design patterns Required

Experience with web frameworks - Vue (primary), Angular, React

Experience with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript Required

Experience with SQL and relational databases Required

Experience designing and consuming REST APIs Required

Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) Preferred

Experience with Groovy/Grails and/or other Java DSL Required

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in relevant field or equivalent experience Required

5+ years of relevant work experience Required
